Dogs don't roll in the mud as much as pigs.
Some do. Relative to the lack of a towel to clean them off before they get in the car.

Labrador Retrievers will roll in anything, as much as possible.

Labs are descended from pigs.

It's the "anything" that they will roll in that worries me: dead animals, other dog poo, mud, ...it's a Lab thing.................then they want to shake themselves in your car....

hmmm I dunno that it's just a 'Lab" thing guys. My little pooch, Rascal (aka small, blonde and furry) will roll in whatever he can right after a bath. Funniest thing to see, he puts one side of his snout on the ground and pushes it along, gradually sliding the whole side of his body down till it's just his butt up in the air pushing himself. Gives a little shake, and repeats his frenzied little slither until he's satisfied the horrible clean smell is tainted enough for his liking.

Another dog trivia:

Chihouhas are actually rodents.

My dog is a yellow lab cross and as soon as I cut the lawn she literally turns green from rolling and burying herself in the cut grass!

I think rolling in smelly stuff in an instinctive means of masking their scent.
Wish some transit riders would follow suit...

my dog is the total opposite. She'll barely even set foot in a lake or river, because she's such an obsessive little groomer. If it's muddy or dusty out, she'll only go out in the most extreme cases.

My dog likes to roll in the rabbit poo in the back hedge. We put a fence up to avoid daily hosings and gagging.

My (RIP) old Doberman was like that. He would walk between the puddles of mud and force me to walk in it. If the weather wasn't to his liking, he'd hold it for days...

Nah, but it's so inside I don't think anyone will get it at this point.
There was a thread about Bigfoot here some time ago, and someone mentioned that a group of Bigfoot would in fact be called a "Smelly" of Bigfoot as opposed to bigfoots, bigfeet and bigfeetses et al.

Thus a clever word play on my part was no where near clever enough.

The first couple to be shown in bed together on prime time TV were Fred and Wilma Flintstone.
