I mean: a Liberal-only board. It has a small sarcastic undertone.

My thoughts are that I would not want to be a member of a board where everyone agreed with everything I say...kind of hard to debate issues when everyone is in agreement...

I consider this place to be an intellectual playground...and I'm still waiting for the bullies to try to bump me off the monkey bars... :P

The Rev isn't going to bump you off the bars Vanni, he's to busy stealing lunch money from the conservative kids who work after school. :P

It's a school girl crush he has on me Peapod. It's common on the radical right because of their repressed sexuality and refusal to participate in self-examination beyond the most cursory physical type.

Either that or he just has a thing for middle-aged men.

In reality I just wanted to be inclusive...but...I think I've learned something here.

School girl crushes are caused by repressed sexuality and a refusal to self-examinate beyond the cursory physical type, and this plagues the radical right....Wow, that’s allot to digest in one afternoon. And here I thought I was just gay...

I was a bit surprised by your post Cosmo. Maybe even a bit disappointed.
I haven't been hanging around much lately, Rick, so didn't notice this reply.

Sorry to disappoint but I stand by my views. This is a predominantly liberal board. There is no shame in that. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I think you have been around me enough to know I have no aversion to a good, spirited debate, whatever the topic. I agree that the differing viewpoints presented are part of the charm and the spice of this forum. I enjoy them, whether I agree with the poster or not.

My issue is specifically those who are here to make trouble and nothing more. On more than one occasion I have seen certain people attack, for example, the Rev. I have a great deal of respect for the Rev and consider him one of my online friends. I will continue to step up to support those I feel are being treated badly. If that means I get turfed, so be it.

My point is that people need to choose their forums by avoiding places that cause them to be nasty and ill mannered. There is not a point of view I would not debate, yet at the same time I think that basic respect is essential. I would hope everyone is welcome here but I would also hope there exists a standard of courtesy that is required as well.

Just my point of view, Ricky.

I think we all need to remember that Ricky was away for a while, so he's likely not aware of the overall context of how and why this thread started.

Any place where people meet has a sub-text at any given time. This place is no different.

I'm aware that this is a predominantely Liberal board, but - as you said - that doesn't mean people are not entitled to their opinion. It was not my purpose to accuse you of having no aversion to a good debate, as you said it yourself My point was however that I, as well as you and other members here, know LadyC longer than today. I have always found her to be one of the nicest members around here. However, what I have seen in this thread was that LadyC got upset by what was said. She has said more than once that she is a religious Christian who stands behind her views. We should all respect that of course. Peapod's post and the discussion that followed seemed to have been offending to her. She expressed that (and might have done that in the wrong manner). When I read her comments, though, I sensed that she had been really offended, pissed off to say. And instead of understanding that (not saying that we should accept insults, but I do think it had been appropriate if we had tried to understand why LadyC got pissed), she was attacked by the members as well. Your post I found a bit over the top, in the sense that you said that it would be better if she'd go some place else. You have given reason for why you thought that, and although I agree with it as a general comment, I think we all know LadyC long enough that it does not apply to her. You could say she is "one of us". I have seen other (Liberal) members expressing bad language and insults here, but I haven't seen them being called up to leave the forum. Which made me think that the reason why LadyC DID get that reaction (not only by you) was because she is a Christian. And I don't think that is right. Of course I do not know whether that is the reason, but it felt for me she was treated differently compared to other members. And that is why I posted the comment.
