A European businessman has reportedly paid $1.5 million for a photo of a muddy Irish potato.
Dublin-based portrait photographer Kevin Abosch, 46, said he sold the print -- a single potato on a black background -- after a customer took a real liking to it while visiting for dinner.
"We had two glasses of wine and he said, 'I really like that.' Two more glasses of wine and he said: 'I really want that,'" Abosch told the U.K. Sunday Times.
Two weeks later, they settled on a price and it was sold. He didn't release the identity of the buyer.
Abosch, who gets upwards of $500,000 for his commissioned portrait photography, says the potato photo is the most he's ever made from a photo he wasn't hired to take.
And the 2010 snapshot isn't even unique. There are two other prints in existence -- one already in private hands. The other was donated to a gallery in Novi Sad, Serbia.
