Hey there Burchy, welcome to CC! I can't offer you a whole lot of info about Saskatchewan, but I do believe we have a few members here who do live there... I'm sure you'll get a bit of feedback.

Saskatchewan: hard to spell easy to draw. I know it's flat - but I'm from Northern Ontario. It was on my way to the west coast.

Welcome aboard....

Woof!

Saskatchewan is beautiful (even has some serious hills on the eastern and western sides) and Saskatoon is a decent city--lots of culture there. Hubby is from there and is currently visiting his parents. Its a fairly good sized city but feels like a small town.

I prefer Regina actually, it seems more....historical...and closer to Q'Appelle which is stunning.

Dunno about the job market--I would assume it would depend on what you do. Doubt if there is much call for a barge captain, for instance...

Good luck in your search!

First of all, smack whoever calls it flat. lol. Having just spent 10 days around the Qu'Appelle Valley, I can tell you, it's not very flat. But then, I grew up in Northern Alberta, prairie land, so who am I to judge hey? lol.

There are a lot of nice little communities, many extremely cheap and close commuting distance to centers like Regina, Estevan, Saskatoon. Tons of history, gorgeous buildings (my sister's Victorian home makes me SO jealous), and lots of great people. From my experience, you'll need to be able to drink rum, ice fish, drive a quad, and be able to be flexible about what sort of job you want. In Saskatchewan a job seems to be less of a calling, and more of a means to an end... something to fund the next hunting trip... so people are willing to snatch up what's available, rather than waiting for 'the ideal'.

Estevan is currently hopping busy, but I have no clue where the busiest center is, or where the most jobs are needed.

Welcome to CC, and we look forward to hearing more about you!

Well that sounds like fun. I can drink rum and ice fish however I will have to buy a quad I guess. My wife will love to hear that news. Almost sounds like SW Ontario except down here in Chatham we really do not get the winters that we used to get. I am a tool and die maker/ general machinist. Employment opportunities down here are almost non existant. The only jobs are up north so we figured if we have to move we might as well make it a big one. So far everything that I have heard about Saskatchewan makes us think tat we are making the right decision.

Cheers

When I was off on sick leave, I heard a program on the radio that interviewed some gov't official - I think from Saskatoon. The economy is extremely good there and, from what I understand, there are jobs to be had. I would look up job opportunities on the HRDC website to start to see if there are any listings. Also, maybe explore the type of companies that would use your skills and check out their websites. Anyhoo, welcome to CC and good luck!
