Hi to everyone
We are leaving the UK and moving to Oakville in April/May 08.
Very stressed at mo. Dealing with removel firm, Trying to get a decent reply from
my UK pension company worrying about getting my 6 yr old daughter into a school (and will she make friends before the summer break) will we find work (I work for a newspaper in the ad design dept and my wife is a Health Care Support Worker/PSW) and everyone wants to see us at Christmas because its our last one in the UK and I know we are gonna have to let some people down. Any morale boosting tips would be handy.

You've got it made. Your daughter will make friends faster than you will. Your wife will get a job before you will. (The job market is healthy.) Your pension problem is an invention. You will fly at 550 mph in comfort and safety and scarcely have to lift a finger, won't miss a night's rest, will never touch the sea or the ground, won't need to eat a limey thing to stave off scurvy. You are the woose who went to the new world.

Feel better now?

Thank you Kreskin. This forum seems more real than several others that I have seen where juveniles act out ad nausium under assumed names while mummy is resting from her labours.

It is always a pleasure to welcome new people to Canada. It will probably take a whole month for our new family to feel at home, but it will take a lifetime for them to get their heads around the sheer scale of their new continent. To take possession of Canada should be a joy, a responsibility, and to care for it a new mission. This is perhaps the best deal on earth.

A wise choice for storied generations past and untold generations future. Congratulations are in order, don't we know?

Howdy Neighbour! I'm in Oakville and rest assured you're daughter will have plenty of friends long before summer comes along. The schools are great and the kids from what I've seen, daughter started in grade 7 here, are friendly, and out going. The schools support peer mentoring and a positive outlook with students. She'll do just fine here.

Lot's of opportunities for work, and I know that there is a need for health care support workers, especially in geriatrics.

A few things you should know about though, Oakville is built for drivers. You need a car here. Not that you can't get away without one, it's just difficult at times. Juxtaposed to what I just wrote, there are some fantastic walking trails all over Oakville.

Folks are friendly here and this town knows how to party. There are plenty of things to get involved in if you choose to so no worries about making friends of your own. There is a great music scene, sports crazy, and then there is the water. From Oakville you can travel the world by boat. Though, most just sail Lake Ontario. You can, if you care to, cruise through all the Great Lakes, take the Inter-Coastal Water Way, which is a protected inland water way, from here all the way down to Miami Florida and return up the East Coast of the US to return to Lake Ontario and home to Oakville again. It's truly amazing!

Toronto is only about a 25 minute drive from here, when the traffic isn't gridlocked. Niagara Falls is just an hour away, and getting away from it all into the Canadian wilderness takes but a couple of hours by road if you are the out doors type.

So put away your worries and get excited because you are going to have a great life here along with your family. Welcome to Oakville Canada and of course welcome to Canadian Content.
