Welcome dancing loon and Brinkly!
Dancing Loon, I believe(but I could be mistaken) that you need 20 posts before you can create an Avatar. Plus, saving the picture on Photobucket will prevent the "red X of doom" from showing up whenver you are offline(if you used your computer as the location of the picture).
So, from the looks like you'll be good to go after 3 more posts.

Shadow is indeed right. It saves the hardcore trolls from popping into our board and immediately putting up an offensive avatar. It's an inconvenience for newbies of course, but, worth it.
