A hero Special Forces veteran is hoping to replace a corrupt Labour MP who quit over fiddling his expenses.

Major Dan Jarvis, 38, spent 15 years as a soldier and served in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Sierra Leone and Iraq. He was also a Parachute Regiment Company Commander in Afghanistan's notorious Helmand Province.

But now he is the favourite to be the Labour Party's candidate in the Barnsley Central by-election after the constituency's former MP Eric Illsley stepped down after admitting fraud.

A FORMER Special Forces veteran is hoping to parachute into the Commons to replace a Labour MP who quit over an expenses fiddle.

Major Dan Jarvis, 38, spent 15 years as a soldier and served in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Sierra Leone and Iraq. He was also a Parachute Regiment Company Commander in Afghanistan's notorious Helmand Province.

He led a company of 100 elite troops from the Special Forces Support Group in the Afghan badlands.The unit of Paras backs up the SAS and SBS on secret operations.

Now he is favourite to be Labour candidate in the Barnsley Central by-election - caused when Eric Illsley quit after admitting fraud.

Labour had an 11,000 majority at last May's election. Widowed dad-of-two Mr Jarvis said: "My service to our country will help me to be a strong voice for this constituency."
