Moscow - Russia is waiting for NATO's response to the latest proposal about the European anti-missile defense (AMD) system, and if an agreement with the alliance fails, Russia would deploy its nuclear missiles, President Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday.

During his meeting with Russia's envoy to NATO Dmitry Rogozin, Medvedev stressed that NATO should realize Moscow's concerns and give "direct answer" to where its western partners saw Russia's place in future European AMD. "We need it (AMD) not to play some common games with NATO but to defend Russia in a due way. Let's don't joke with it," Medvedev warned, as quoted by Interfax news agency.
He said in any case Russia will find the solution either together with NATO or separately, adding that some decisions regarding first-strike nuclear missiles deployment could be "unpleasant."
On Monday, a US delegation, headed by deputy Defense Minister and former Ambassador to Russia Alexander Vershbow, arrived in Moscow to discuss the AMD cooperation between Russia and the United States.
Moscow has long opposed the deployment of NATO missile defense facilities near its borders, claiming they would be a security threat and upset the strategic balance of force in Europe.
...as long it's not China .
