I am all for the United Nations, under certain conditions:

Let them relocate to another country that they don't hate as much as they hate America. Let them return prime American real estate to Americans.

Let all the UN diplomats who defaulted on all kinds of crimes from parking ticket to murder pay up, and have enough honesty not to hide behind diplomatic immunity.

Let them contribute to the United Nations fund EQUALLY for an EQUAL vote.

Let them explain that if the League of Nations became obsolete, why does the United Nations still exist.

No one is protecting human rights in countries with no monetary value, like Somalia. They tried it and they dragged a body around with a car.
Hell, no one is protecting human rights in countries with extreme monetary value, like China, Afganistan and Iraq.
Why would the UN, a voluntary organization, have any power to over ride China and the USA. They are the only influence left on a global scale. The USA has all the millitary and China has control of all the goods. Holy crap were lucky we have all that oil or we'd be Somalia.
Geez. Just some random thoughts.

Other than just oil we still have trees, water, gold, copper, nickel, zinc, iron, uranium, silicates, concrete, grain, meat, and smart people.

The United Nations has become about its self preservation. Procedures are designed to
ensure nothing of substance happens at all. The world as we know it is slowly sinking
into the sunset because we are unwilling, or without funds to continue to police more
and more chaotic world nations. The UN exists in name and expense accounts only.
The real purpose of the UN died years ago of political correctness and selfish self interest.
As a world body, they ignored the plight of the suffering, we have ignored the plight
of the starving, those without education, those who really need the experience of freedom.
While doing so we have criticized those who would in some measure try to help. With
every breath we chastised those who gave for not giving enough, we attacked those who
did not give, and belittled those who could not afford to to give.
The world leaders played petty politics with the lives of the suffering and sucked the lives
out of the nations who could help. The whole place became a whining session instead of a
hall that could bring peace and hope to those without any of those assets.
The only dictators that were confronted were those of easy pickings, and their assets had
some value for the scavenger nations, America, Russia, China, France, Britain and at times
even ourselves.
In Cuba we have maintained an embargo because we must satisfy the interests of the Cuban
population of Florida and other parts of the Americas. Is Castro the nicest man in our over all
neighbourhood? No The problem is he was and is a hell of an improvement to Batista and the
Mob that ran Cuba before 1959. In China we have the same ruthless dictatorship, do we have
an embargo? Oh no, in fact we have trade deals and we traded our children's heritage of good
jobs and a future, so we could increase the value of our retirement funds, by working children
in the third world for a couple of bucks a day. We smile and shake hands with all kinds of
tyrants because the gain is worth more than our moral commitment to our fellow man,
and the rest are threatened with the dwindling military resources we do have.
Some say poor America, and sometimes America gets a bad rap here. America hosts this
nest of vipers that by their vary existence in their present form mocks the very charter they stand
for. The left, right and middle should be ashamed of themselves. Yes the UN does have some
excellent programs and in some areas they help those who need help the most. The problem is
they extract a heavy toll, economically and morally from the member nations that provide the
help and when its over the country needing help is in more trouble than when they started.
If we as a collective world society did help with a pure heart, things could be different. We attack
America for exploitation, but say nothing of the money that is to help the poor ending up in the
hands of dictators who are communists, fascists, and religious tyrants of every stripe.
The UN should either fade into history or get its collective act together, and start to fulfill the mandate
it pledged onto many decades ago. We need the United Nations, just not the present organization
that is little more than a myth rather than positive influence on our planet.

Well said. The bureaucrats that run the UN have no interest in anything except their exorbitant paycheques and benefits. All at the taxpayers expense of course.

The US wouldn't let it go at any cost.

The reaction of the chair toHillel Neuer's little speech (as shown in the post by CDN Bear below) is a marvelous depiction of how useless, how helpless, and yes......how malicious the UN has become.......

Outrageous.

The UN would be an effective organziation if it narrowed its mandate to things like disaster relief. It has become so corrupt and politicized.
