Whilst Britain is fighting Islamism, I think it's about time unelected EU officials stopped telling us what to do...

EUROPE TELLS BRITAIN: DON'T SAY 'MUSLIMS'

EU: Politically correct

Secret EU guidelines have been drawn up warning governments not to link Islam and terrorism.

The politically correct directives are believed to be behind ministers not using words such as “Muslim’’ about Britain’s terrorism crisis.

Yesterday the Daily Express reported how Gordon Brown’s ministers had been told to avoid inflammatory language when speaking about the attempted car bomb attacks in London and Glasgow.

Neither the Prime Minister in a major interview nor Home Secretary Jacqui Smith in the Commons referred to Muslims or Islam.

Last night critics pointed to a classified EU document sent out to all European governments offering “non-offensive’’ phrases to use when discussing terrorism.

Banned terms were said to include “jihad’’, “Islamic’’ or “fundamentalist”.

EU officials said the “common lexicon’’ aimed to stop the distortion of the Muslim faith and alienation of its followers in Europe. European governments had previously agreed on the need to develop a “non-emotive lexicon’’ for use in discussion to avoid “exacerbating division’’.

Gerard Batten, a UK Independence Party MEP, claimed Ms Smith’s statement was “evidence that the Government is now cutting its suit to suit the European Commission’s cloth’’. He is demanding that the full lexicon be published.

But the Home Office insisted: “The Home Secretary uses her own words. She did not draw on any other source.’’

Even Labour former Foreign Office Minister Denis MacShane said yesterday that “Islamist’’ was an “accurate description’’ of the ideology behind the terror attacks.

And Conservative MP Philip Davies said: “Whatever your view on particular words, surely everyone should agree it is completely unacceptable for people in Brussels who have already interfered too much in our lives to start to tell us what words we can and can’t use.

“If we believe in anything in this country we should believe in free speech. If we are allowing the EU to dictate to us on this, most people would find that horrifying.’’

Hugo Robinson, of Open Europe thinktank, said: “Brussels has no place telling national governments how they should deal with the real and immediate threat of terrorism: The EU’s so-called non-emotive lexicon won’t do anything to stop dangerous extremists targeting Britain.’’

A Foreign Office source insisted the “common lexicon’’ was not an exercise in “political correctness’’ but an attempt to find a “common vocabulary and definitions’’ for statements about terrorism.

READERS' COMMENTS

What Adolph Hitler of Germany failed to achieve by military invasion of Great Britain and entire Europe she is about to achieve that in a very devious ways of using lies, spins, political correctness, flatteries, deceit, dishonesty to steal the sovereignty of this nation and impose its warped leftist liberal ideology on this nation.

Make no mistake about this directive the EU is hand in hand with the beast or the antichrist who deny the son ship relationship of Jesus Christ and his heavenly father the God and founder of the state of Israel. That anti Christ is led by the daughter of Babylon Saudi Arabia whose hand is smeared with the blood of the saints of Jesus Christ and Jews. It is God who shall bring this evil beast to judgment because she would be given blood to drink as water, because the Lord God who judges her for wine of fornication which she had made the kings of the earth to drink is the oil in which she has and uses as means of influencing the west to turn on a blind eyes on terrorism which is the vehicle for propagation of Islam is too strong for her.

Dear Sirs,

This article is “music to my ears”. Nothing gets the British public riled like government or in this case the EU, pontificating on what we can or can’t say or do; to encourage the opposite reaction.

Could you enquire from your sources the full lexicon of banned words and publish same so that I can be sure to use these words, with relish, at every opportunity in the home and at work.

If the EU really wishes to stop perceived distortion of the Muslim faith they should first of all acquaint themselves with the tenets of Islam and realise that “terrorism” is the only word for it.

The reality is that there are some pretty nasty people in the world, many of them in Europe, a great many in Britain, ALL of them Muslim and they are not going to go away by the use of polite euphemisms for what one British politician described Islam as a “vicious and wicked faith”. (I hope I have not misquoted him, after all he was savagely prosecuted, twice, at the behest of a vindictive government and their media mouthpiece the BBC) It is political correctness in all its forms that is poisoning and distorting reality and the solution is to call things by their correct names.

Our country needs help to rid ourselves of all anti British elements in our midst, the people are crying out for leadership and as a responsible and pro British newspaper may I suggest that you instigate a sustained campaign to this end (it will take years) and reap the accolade of a very grateful nation.

Yours faithfully,

Ross Logie

The appeasement party, which is the EU.Is dictating policies to our appeasement government, of ban the bomb socialists. All liberals and socialists have one thing in common, no backbone. They would rather give in,its easier that way. We are the only country at this time in the EU under attack(the spainish had their share, before theygave in, and ran for cover)The only way to beat the terrorists is to call them what they are,in this case muslims. The EU is a corrupt organistation of self servers.(Blair was quick to apply for a job)In time it will implode, bringing down many countries with it.Lets get out before we are destroyed along with them.

Politically Correct or not the EU have no right to dictate to the UK what words we can and cannot use. The war on terror will not go away just because we are not allowed to say Muslim etc. When will someone in government in this country stand up and tell the interfering busybody do gooders in the EU to talk a long walk off a very short plank?

Hmmm might be a smart thing to do by not connecting terrorists with Muslims. Then they are a smaller group, terrorists, and have less affiliation.

Haha, and the unabomber too, I guess he was motivated my Islam. Lets not forget Rwanda, I just thought it was a racial thing, but I guess it too was Islam.

I see nothing wrong with saying 'this terrorist is a Muslim' or 'this terrorist is Irish'. Most people understand that not all Muslim's are terrorists and not all terrorists are Muslim. It doesn't mean that some terrorists are not Muslim.

Shhhhhhhhh if you don't say it - it will go away

I love they have to deliver their 'precautions' about the written/spoken word in the media - which is the communicator for the nation hahaha...

What is the polite word this week? Insurgents? Mad doctors? Disaffected Youth?
