The Evil Empire
MI5 knows of 30 terror plots threatening the UK and is keeping 1,600 individuals under surveillance, the security service's head has said.

Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller warned the threat was "serious" and "growing".
She said future attacks could be chemical or nuclear and that many of the plots were linked to al-Qaeda. Prime Minister Tony Blair said the terrorist threat was "very real" and spoke of "poisonous propaganda" warping the minds of young people.

Hard choices
MI5 has increased in size by nearly 50% since 9/11 and now stands at roughly 2,800 staff.
But according to Dame Eliza the current terror threat will "last a generation" and her concern is that even with MI5's rapid growth, the security service will not be able to investigate nearly enough of activities it deems to be suspicious.

She said hard choices would have to be made about resources. "I wish life were like Spooks [the TV series] where everything is, a, knowable, and, b, soluble by six people," she explained. Dame Eliza's warning comes days after a UK man was sentenced to at least 40 years in jail for planning a series of attacks.
Attacks planned by Dhiren Barot, 34, from London, included using a so-called "dirty bomb" using radioactive material.

Mr Blair also said he agreed with Dame Eliza's comments that the terrorist threat would last for a generation. "I've been saying, as you know, for several years that this terrorist threat is very real, it's been building up over a long period of time. "It's not just in this country, as we've seen recently from incidents in India, France, other parts of the world. This is a threat that has grown up over a generation."

Attacks thwarted
In response to Dame Eliza's warning, Massoud Shadjareh, of the Islamic Human Rights Commission, said he accepted there was a terrorist threat but it had to be put into perspective. "Over 1,000 arrests have been made under anti-terrorism since 9/11 and out of those, 27 have been found guilty. Out of those 27, only nine have been Muslims," he said. Dame Eliza, who rarely speaks in public, gave a speech to a small audience on Thursday, detailing what she believes her organisation and the UK is facing.

She said that, since the 7 July bombings, five further major conspiracies in the UK had been thwarted.
"Today, my officers and the police are working to contend with some 200 groupings or networks, totalling over 1,600 identified individuals - and there will be many we don't know - who are actively engaged in plotting, or facilitating, terrorist acts here and overseas," she said. "Today we see the use of home-made improvised explosive devices. "Tomorrow's threat may - I suggest will - include the use of chemicals, bacteriological agents, radioactive materials and even nuclear technology."

'British foot soldiers'
Out of the 200 or so groups being watched by MI5, a smaller subset are of the highest priority because it is feared that they are plotting actual attacks. "We are aware of numerous plots to kill people and to damage our economy. What do I mean by numerous? Five? Ten? "No, nearer 30 that we currently know of.
"These plots often have linked back to al-Qaeda in Pakistan and through those links al-Qaeda gives guidance and training to its largely British foot soldiers here on an extensive and growing scale."
She added that of the 30 plots some may turn out to be less credible or advanced but it would be hard to be sure until they are fully investigated.
Tory security spokesman Patrick Mercer echoed her call for more resources, saying "we just don't have enough spooks and secret agents to make sure that our country is as safe as it could be."

I trust MI5. If they tell be there are 300 terror plots in the UK, I tend to believe them. Like everything to do with the British military or security services, the MI5 is one of the best - if not THE best - in the world.

MI5 Logo. Motto translates as "Defend the Realm"—a reflection of the David Maxwell-Fyfe's directive for the Service to Defend the Realm

Thames House, London. Headquarters of the Security Service

The Security Service, commonly known as MI5, is the United Kingdom counter-intelligence and security agency and is part of the intelligence machinery alongside the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS or MI6), Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and the Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS). All come under the direction of the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC). The service has a statutory basis in the Security Service Act 1989 and the UK Intelligence Services Act of 1994. Its remit includes the protection of British parliamentary democracy and economic interests, fighting serious crime, militant separatism, terrorism and espionage within the UK. While mainly concerned with internal security it does have an overseas role in support of the mission.

The service has had a national headquarters at Thames House on Millbank in London since 1995, drawing together personnel from a number of locations into a single HQ facility. Thames House is shared with the Northern Ireland Office and is also home to the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre, a subordinate organisation to the Security Service.

Within the civil service community the service is colloquially known as Box 500 (after its official wartime address of PO Box 500 and its current address — PO Box 3255, London SW1P 1AE)[1] or simply Five[citation needed].

The end of the Cold War resulted in a change in emphasis for the operations of the service, assuming responsibility for the investigation of all Irish republican activity on the mainland and increasing the effort countering other forms of terrorism.

The service is attributed with successes infiltrating the Provisional IRA (PIRA), with operations in conjunction with Special Branchfrom various police forces leading to 21 convictions for terrorism-related offences between 1992 and 1999.[citation needed] It has been suggested that this success was a significant contributor to the Northern Ireland peace process[citation needed], however this is disputed citing the success of the "Internal Security Unit" in detecting and murdering a number of informants.[citation needed]

Whilst the security forces in the province provide support in the countering of both republican and Loyalist paramilitary groups since the early 1970s, Republican sources have often accused these forces of collusion with Loyalists.[citation needed]

The Security service will take responsibility for all security intelligence work in Northern Ireland from 2007 from the Police Service of Northern Ireland.[citation needed] Both Nuala O'Loan, the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland, and Al Hutchinson, the Oversight Commissioner of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, have expressed reservations.[citation needed]

With the emergence of other terrorist threats in the United Kingdom the service has increased its resource commitment to the detection and prevention of these activities (MI5 has recently doubled in size).[citation needed] Numerous raids against suspected militants, and the internment of key suspects in HM Prison Belmarsh in London, have been credited to Security Service intelligence.[citation needed] It has been reported that Security Service officers have been involved in interrogation of British citizens interned at the United States' Guantanamo Bay facility in Cuba.[citation needed]
****************************************************************

Also investigating possible terrorist activity is SOCA (the Serious Organised Crime Agency) which was only created just this year and is Britain's equivalent of the FBI.

SOCA formally came into being on 1 April 2006 following a merger of the National Crime Squad, the National Criminal Intelligence Service, the investigative and intelligence sections of HM Customs and Excise on serious drug trafficking, and the Immigration Service's responsibilities for organised immigration crime. The Serious Fraud Office remains as a separate agency.

The creation of the agency was announced on 9 February 2004 as one of the elements of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005, which also restricts protests and demonstrations in central London, and widens powers of arrest and the use of search warrants.

Parallels have been drawn between the organisation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States: indeed, parts of the press have labelled SOCA as the "British FBI".[1]

Comparisons with the FBI are not strictly accurate due to non-federal nature of the United Kingdom constitution, and the completely different structure of policing. Police forces will continue to deal with most crime whilst SOCA will assist forces and also work independently with regards to serious organised crime.

1,600 TERRORISTS? THAT'S GOOD NEWS

13 November 2006

AFTER her assessment of the terror threat facing our country, the head of MI5, Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller, is being compared to commie-baiting Senator Joe McCarthy.

Senator McCarthy almost single-handedly started the communist witch-hunt that swept America in the 1950s, destroying many innocent lives.

The quietly-spoken head of MI5 got mentioned in the same breath as mad McCarthy by giving a frank and chilling assessment of the terror threat facing our nation - 1,600 would-be terrorists currently being watched by MI5, around 100,000 young Muslims who visit extremist websites and five major terror plots thwarted since the mass murder of July 7, 2005.

Dame Eliza stands accused of whipping up panic, trawling for extra funds and doing the Government's dirty work by preparing us for the controversial security measures that will be unveiled in the Queen's Speech later this week.

But every word she says sounds reasonable enough to me.

Dame Eliza has hardly stigmatised the Muslim community. If anything, she seems to be saying that the real Osama groupies are a tiny minority.

As for the 100,000 young Muslims who visit extremist websites, no doubt many are pathetic fantasists, inadequates who can't get a girl, dreaming of revenge on a cruel world - not so different to suburban white boys who lap up the violence they hear in heavy metal or hip-hop but wouldn't hurt a fly.

And if Dame Eliza tells us that five major terror plots have been foiled since July 7, who can doubt it? Who has any right to doubt it?

If you were in London on the morning the bombs went off, there was a part of you that thought this is what our city will be like from now on.

This is what our lives will be like. Our city will become like Israel with endless suicide bombers walking on to buses and trains and into pizza restaurants, a murderous cycle that will last for generations. It didn't turn out that way and I have no trouble believing that countless lives have been saved by the work of the police and the security services.

And that is the difference between Senator McCarthy and the MI5's director-general.

The domestic communist threat facing America may have existed largely in McCarthy's mind. But Islamic terrorists have already committed mass murder.

This is no fantasy. Children have lost parents in mangled tube trains, parents lost sons and daughters who were on their way to work.

Many more had their lives and bodies and families shattered.

Anyone who compares Dame Eliza to Senator McCarthy insults the dead and the maimed, and smears the living who mourn loved ones who were slaughtered.

The threat is real. We can only argue about the scale of that threat. What do we do? Keep the moderates on our side and annihilate the extremists. But who are the extremists? That's the tricky bit.

Should we worry about those 100,000 young Muslims visiting sick websites?

Or do they just need to get laid a bit more often?

All this garbage about 72 virgins waiting in Paradise for successful suicide bombers reveals that there is a real sexual frustration at the heart of Islamic fundamentalism and a dangerous blurring between fantasy and reality.

Dhiren Barot, 34, has been given a 40-year jail sentence for being an al-Qaeda plotter who dreamed about bringing destruction to the US and UK. Barot filmed the World Trade Center before 9/11 and amused himself by making bomb noises and tilting the camera on its side. But he never actually killed anyone.

So was Barot a potential mass murderer or just a delusional idiot?

And Mizanur Rahman faces a seven-year jail sentence for calling for terror attacks in Britain.

In a march through Central London, Rahman demanded that British soldiers come back from Iraq - in body bags.

"We want to see the blood running in the streets of Baghdad," raved the 23-year-old, who carried placards declaring "Behead those who insult Islam" and "Annihilate those who insult Islam".

Asked by his defence lawyer if he meant it, Rahman replied: "Of course not. I never intended anybody to be harmed, let alone killed." I love that "of course not."

Rahman was found guilty of inciting racial hatred, but may face a retrial on the far more serious charge of soliciting murder.

He says it has all been a dreadful mistake. Just another pathetic fantasist? It's possible.

But after 7/7 it's too late to forgive and forget those who call for British blood to be spilled, or wonder if they would actually carry out their threat.

Too many people have been maimed and murdered, too many lives have been shattered, too many have lost their loved ones.

That's what those 100,000 Muslims drooling over sick websites need to know - threaten us with death and destruction, we will take you at your word.

You can't say you didn't mean it when you are standing in the dock.

As for the director-general of MI5, she has made me feel quite positive about the future.

There are about two million Muslims in the UK, but Dame Eliza estimates that only 1,600 want to blow us to pieces. I would say that's quite a heartening statistic.

That means that there are almost two million Muslims who still think we can all live in peace.

Only 1,600 fanatics who want to kill us? Now that's what Ian Dury would have called a reason to be cheerful.

The threat has always been there to any Government and to any body in power. Hell we 'USA' revolted against the Kingdom and if you think they did it without terrorists you would be incorrect. Take the Boston Tea Party for example, a very very mild example. This would be deemed as a terrorist attack today.

There will always be differences, terrorists, and terroristic plots. The stakes are just getting higher with the advances in the damage caused and the wants of the ruling powers. This is nothing new to the world and should come as no surprise to our generation. To put a time limit on it is silly, it will last till the end of time.

Let them keep tracking down these people. If the charges are unjustified I hope it will be brought to light. If it thwarts attempts so be it. The Governments stance has and always will be, If your not doing anything wrong why worry. If you think they are just getting around to keeping tabs on people you are just crazy. The government's revelation that they are keeping records is a tool to keep the fence riders off of the posts. Freedoms are not being taken away. They are just showing that freedom, in hindsight, is a myth. You either are going to carry out a threat or you are not.

Hopefully they stop it before it happens to hurt the masses.

Oh, and the IRA didn't exist either.

That was all a British plot to keep the 6 counties under the domineering control of the Queen, who, along with the Jews, control world banking and the media.

ONE of al-Qaeda’s most dangerous figures has been revealed as a double agent working for MI5, raising criticism from European governments, which repeatedly called for his arrest.
Britain ignored warnings — which began before the September 11 attacks

watch this at fox news about MI6, listen carefully....

Interesting. And who caused Madrid, Beslan and Bali?

Madrid was a secret services work, easy, everytime you hear alqueada responsability, it means it is the secret service who are behind it, when the anthrax attack happen in the us, the letters was indentified as alqueada, you could read, allah is greath and we will kill all americans, and the investigation has been proven that the origin of the anthrax was from a US military lab in maryland. It shows the credibitliy of this war on terror, which is based on false flag operations.
