Rumsfeld Compares Iraq Critics To Communists, Stalinists

From Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s press briefing today:

Throughout history there have always been those who predict America’s failure just around every corner. At the height of World War II, a prominent U.S. diplomat predicted that democracy was finished in Britain, and probably in America, too. Many Western intellectuals praised Stalin during that period.

For a time, Communism was very much en vogue. It was called Euro-Communism, to try to mute or mask the totalitarian core.

And thankfully the American people are better centered. They ultimately come to the right decisions on big issues. And the future of Iraq is a very big issue.

So those being tossed about by the winds of concern should recall that Americans are a tough lot and will see their commitments through.

Yesterday, White House Deputy Press Secretary Trent Duffy said President Bush “believes that Americans, obviously, have a right to express their views. That’s part of being American. That’s one of the things we’re fighting for.” He left out the part about how, if you do express your views, the Secretary of Defense will call you a Stalinist.

Fecking hypoctites I can't believe you Bush lovers :p

Well if the height of World War II is before the Nazi's turned on the Russians (Prior to D-Day). Its rightly to believe that the U.K. was not expected to hold out forever even with the U.S's support. So to say that democracy in Britain would probably fall to either the Facists(probably) or the Communists(outside chance) their was some merit in their beliefs. Then once Britain fell North America would be the last bastion of Democracy. But then the war on the eastern front began and both sides faded from existence.

The Irony of Rumsfelds statements was that Communism at its core beliefs is very reliant on military rule and a military economy. So to call someone a Communist is callings them a person who wants a military run world. Go figure with these idiots.

Pretty big stretch to say that Americans expressing their views are Stalinists. What he did say is that the left wing of the day, or Western Intellectuals, praised Stalin. This was true then, and to a certain degree, many would say this is still true today.

Sometimes people look for things, and find them, that are really not there. That is being paranoid.

Isn't this living proof that we are now in a bad episode of the Twilight Zone.... :)

Crazy, paranoid, old men; with no legacies to the world will yearn to burn it to the ground. With minor resistance and majority rule they venture to lead us to a shadow from which no light can ever breach.

So if you are not selective, then I assume you have exactly the same bitch against the Iraqi insurgents who blow up buses of innoncents? Or how about the terrorists that blow up trains in Italy? Or how about the terrorists that blow up nightclubs in Bali? Or how about the terrorists that blow up busses and trains in London? Or how about Iraqi terrorists that kidnap and brutally behead people of all nations? Or how about Iraqi terrorists that drive a tanker full of fuel into downtown Baghdad and blow it up, killing many civilians and kids? Or, gee, how about the terrorists who started this whole thing by first trying to blow up the WTC, then blowing up embassies around the world, attacking the USS Cole, and, oh yeah, lets not forget blowing up the WTC towers after failing the first time? Are you selective? Or have you forgot that Saddam invaded a non-military country for its oil? Yet you accuse the US of doing the same thing to Iraq which has a military? How about Saddam and his sons brutally killing thousands and thousands of their own citizens? How about Saddam taking the money for selling oil through the UN and then building gold plated palaces? Yet you have the nerve to think the US is the bad guys? Got an idea. You go join the terrorists, I will join the US, and we will see which of us is happier. Deal? Thought not. You accuse the US of being idiots? Given your comments, you should move there, you would fit right in.

No one has to "accuse" the US(G) of being idiotic..........their actions speak for themselves. As per usual...... "some" continue to believe that the US (G) has not contributed to the terrorism that is a bi product of the US(G) actions.....over a long period of time. As per usual , what is neglected to be addressed in this scenario.......is that as long as SH was of value to the US......the US was just fine supporting him..... It was the US that turned traitor to Iraq. It was /is the US that created the "insurgents" with its idiotic war. The fact that all this escapes some......is beyond belief. Or is there such a serious memory impairment in the US as a whole now that all some can relate to is the present.....and not see the sequence of events as they evolved over a large number of years.----and how the US G meddling, unfair tactics have been dissing the world off for some time now?? In many ways the US and its destructive interfering ,meddling , manipulative , biased Gov't is the author of its own misfortune.

To start the war on terror you must trace its roots. It all began when the CIA contributed huge sums of money to the Mujahdeen fighters in Afghanistan to help fight the Soviets in the 80's. They even sent people to train operatives in the use of weaponry and DEMOLITIONS. Osama Bin Laden was the leader of this movement for he was the most symbolic role that the CIA could find. (They originally wanted one of the Saudi Princes, but a relation will do).

Many of these fighters went on to become Al Qaeda, an organized group of fighters dedicated to fight for a radical version of Islam.

These people bombed or helped bomb London, Spain(not Italy), Bali, and the WTC. Not Iraq and that is something that a lot of American's haven't learned. Al Qaeda doesn't attack your troops, its homegrown fighters( with some foreigners from neighboring nations). A lot of them fight because they don't like being OCCUPIED and Exploited.

If you bothered to google your attackers on these sites you would see that most of these attacks were carried out by terrorist cells within that country. Yes Saddam wasn't that great a leader. He gassed the Kurdish and Iranians (with American made Chemical Weapons albeit). You see your Cia thought that Iran was a bigger problem so they helped out Saddam with his war.

Why we criticize the U.S. is not because we side with the Terrorists, but for the fact that the minority Elite both Political and Commercial have used it to exploit people on both sides (Iraqi's, American Soldiers, and America in general).

First of all, it is not "my CIA". Secondly, while I may not agree with the US on everything they do, I get very tired of people blaming them for virtually everything wrong in this world, when there are people out there, including the extremely wealthy bin Laden, who are willing to die simply to try and destroy the West and all it stands for. Thirdly, given a choice between the US and any other country or style of life, I will gladly take the US as a friend, warts and all.

I do not subscribe to the "US right or wrong" mentality and can quite willingly see and admit the problems the US has. But to read some of the posts here is very disturbing. Some on this forum seem to think that everything wrong in this entire world is either the fault of the US, or the result of some deep dark conspiracy the US is involve in, which is quite funny given that these same people also think that the George Bush's and Donald Rumsfelds of the world are the stupidest people ever known on the face of the planet. How these same so-called stupid people could first have the idea and then the werewithal to carry out this extremely complicated and involved consipiracy is beyond me, but then if you want to believe something hard enough, I guess it can be true.

The problem that I see here is that while I and others like me can see and admit the failings of the US, while at the same time acknowledge their successes, all the US detractors see is the failings without any acknowledgement at all of the good things they do. And yes, they do a lot of good, and to deny they do any good is simply being stupid, at best, paranoid at worst. Just ask the Tsnumai countries who contributed the most to their relief efforts. It was not the leftist countries of the world, it was the US and Britain. Canada doesn't even come close, mores the pity.
