I read the first article and that one is really good, my compliments. I don't think many people are aware of the SAP's (Structural Adjustment Programmes) and the damage they've done since the beginning of the 1980's still up to today (although the IMF and the Worldbank have officially declared - for what I know - that the SAP's are a big failure, and they have started with the PRSP's - Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers -, but critics say they aren't better either) is beyond belief. I wasn't aware of them either until three months ago, when we learned about them in a course at university. I wish to add two links. The first about what SAP's are:

Structural Adjustment Program

And another one:

Structural Adjustment - A Major Cause Of Poverty

I'm going to have buy Manuel Valenzuela's book. He sure can turn a phrase.

The behaviour of the north and west has been truly deplorable for centuries. I keep hoping for a shift, and there are signs that it's beginning, but they (we) keep trying to hold onto the wealth. When you look at the policies of modern globalization though, it is really brutal. We don't shoot people or force them to be slaves much anymore...that wouldn't be tolerated for long. Look at the widespread opposition to Iraq. Instead we use monetary policies to encourage them to shoot each other and force them to enslave themselves.
