On March 30th 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin was at the plenary session of the International Arctic, dubbed ‘The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’. The conference is a major platform for discussing the problems and prospects of the Arctic. About 2,000 local and international guests were at the forum, in Russia’s North- Western city of Arkhangelsk, including Finnish President Sauli Niinisto and Iceland’s president, Gudni Johannesson. The forum was hosted by Geoff Cutmore, of CNBC.
In what is a rare memory glitch for the President, Putin quotes Reagan instead of Bush Sr, while disputing Russia’s hacking of US elections. Getting the wrong name is not a big deal - but Western media didn’t miss an opportunity to dissect what was a simple joke!
