Up to half a million refugees are gathering in Libya to attempt the crossing to Europe on the deadly boats that have killed thousands already.

The toll of misery was revealed by senior Royal Navy officers leading Britain’s Mediterranean rescue mission off the Libyan coast. Britain’s amphibious assault ship HMS Bulwark has helped save around 4,000 refugees before they drowned having set sail in unseaworthy boats.

The ship’s 350-strong company of sailors and Royal Marines is bracing itself to rescue a further 3,000. Captain Nick Cooke-Priest said: “Indications are that there are 450,000 to 500,000 migrants in Libya who are waiting at the border.”

As he spoke, intelligence reports were warning Bulwark’s crew, which is among about 11 rescue vessels in the central Mediterranean, of thousands more migrants in the water. Britain is working with the Italian navy on Operation Weald to rescue migrants who have fallen prey to people smuggling gangs in Libya.

Half a million refugees .....yikes!!! Maybe eventually Mr.Smack, but
not initially.

My guess is France, as there are already large enclaves, and who
(I know this will sound cold, and might be where England and some
of the other more affuent members of the EU fit in at this point) will
pay for the housing and support of 1/2 a million refugee's once they
make landfall?

but who can support that...I mean realistically, what country can just absorb that?

None. They will have to be stopped before they leave or Europe will be a disaster.
i think we do our part here...we pull in all kinds of refugees, we go into their countries and rescue them, bring them back, teach them our culture and our language and they thrive but...wow, that's a lot of people

Canada is a very compassionate country, and much bigger than others with a sparse population, so we can absorb more migrants or refugees.

Oh Canada!!! :canada: We should be very proud of ourselves as a nation.

The rules are very different for immigrants and refugees though. Immigrants
CAN'T be on the public dole, & CAN'T get into legal trouble or they're booted
out (and in theory) CAN'T come back....& this is in effect until they become
citizens.

Refugees operate on different rules. Now factor that by 1/2 a million in one shot.

My Daugher-in-Law is an immigrant to Canada (from America...Utah), and the
hoops she had to jump through.....wow!!! If her sponsor (my Son) got into legal
trouble, she would have been deported and wouldn't ever be allowed back. If
she worked anywhere befoe she had a SIN# (to pay taxes) and got caught, she
would have been deported and wouldn't ever be allowed back. If my Son failed
in his ability to support her (& himself), she would have been deported and wouldn't
ever be allowed back....& so on and so forth. Refugees have different rules.

yes I don't think many people understand exactly what is expected of immigrants here...we get the best of the best...

Yep, & as an immigrant, before one becomes a Landed Immigrant, or
eventually a Citizen in Canada, you'd best not become ill, or try to come
into Canada with an illness....'cuz you'd have zero health bennifits.

yes I know a couple who immigrated from a country in Africa...terrible circumstances to have to immigrate...she unexpectedly became pregnant...they already had two boys...she said if it's a girl, we have to leave because raping white baby girls is a sure cure for AIDS ...shortly after she was born, their dogs were all poisoned and the house was attacked...they came to Canada...ten years...it took ten years and they couldn't get sick for ten years

they made it, but only just

My Daughter-in-Law became a Landed Immigrant in just under a
year, which is almost unheard of (Usually takes years) and then
got her SIN number, and thus the ability to pay tax's (& get sick).

She often jokes that eventually she'll be replaced by a cheaper
immigrant.

Typical. The British do most of the heavy lifting. Apart from the Italians, where the hell are the rest of our "EU allies?" Where are the Frogs? When all these migrants stop turning up on Europe's shores it will be all thanks to the British, yet I bet our "EU allies" give us sod all thanks for bailing them all out again.

I'm voting to leave the EU in the referendum (although my vote won't matter because the pro-EU British Establishment are already doing all they can to fix that vote even before campaigning for it has started by trying to abolish purdah, and the EU is already about to spend billions of pounds to pump copious amounts of pro-EU propaganda into our homes).

Immigrants that we get to choose are good for the country. letting in masses of refugees, not so much. All get welfare and free medical. something that most Canadian citizens don't even get.
