In retaliation for imposing sanctions, Russia will also bar its rocket engines from launching US military satellites

Russia is to deny the US future use of the International Space Station beyond 2020 and will also bar its rocket engines from launching US military satellites as it hits back at American sanctions imposed over Ukraine crisis.

Russia’s deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin announced a series of punitive measures on Tuesday against the US in response to sanctions imposed after Russia annexed Crimea.

The two countries have long cooperated closely on space exploration despite their clashes in foreign policy.

The Space Station is manned by both American and Russian crew, but the only way to reach it is by using Russia’s Soyuz spacecraft.

The US is keen to keep the $100 billion (£600) ISS flying until at least 2024, four years beyond its original target.

You must've missed the word 'politics' there.

Kinda like how you missed the word 'subsidy ' before.

Corruption and oppression aren't political?

I'm still waiting to see all these subsidies that aren't tax credits.

Not really a ban, just refusing to be the shuttle service for them. They can always build their own rockets and get there themselves or hitch a ride with another place - maybe China.

SpaceX is already delivering cargo to the ISS in the Dragon capsule, 12 deliveries of 1200 pounds each for $1.6 billion or something like that. They have manned missions planned for next year with a modified Dragon capsule. And heavy lift rockets in development as well. By 2020, who cares if Putin won't rent his rockets. Besides SpaceX, there are three other private companies working on the same thing. Good for Obama, let NASA focus on the science instead of building taxis and delivery trucks. More R&D is definitely a good thing.

so long as it is done with private dollars and not subsidized by taxpayers

It shows how far the US has fallen in recent years in the space industry when it is now having to rely on RUSSIAN craft to get to space.

That would have been unthinkable in the 1960 and 1970s.

Also shows how superior we are to the Brits in space capability, even in our decline.

Soon you'll be having to use Britain's Virgin Galactic spaceship to get to space.

The Americans will be having to resort to using this British spaceship whilst the British and Chinese partake in a joint mission to put British and Chinese astronauts on Mars.

Remember: America's space industry declines whilst Britain's is one of the fastest-growing in the world.
