North Korea rights abuses move UN commission members to tears

We were not the first to report on the latest, appalling revelations on oppression in North Korea. We were among the first, though, and if you have not read this, you should be sitting down with a stiff drink before you do.

It concerns the fact that members of a UN Commission were moved to tears by revelations of the communist regime's practices that are so inhuman you can understand their reaction.

Read about that in the report linked to above. But here is a question: Why is North Korea's oppression not a top and ongoing news item all day and every day in the Western media?

In the West, this is how it now works:

Fascists (members of the Right) are universally condemned, whereas Marxists (members of the Left) are usually either ignored or even given support by left wing politicians (Britain's Labour Party is now headed by a Marxist), even though the latter is worse than the former.

When communists oppress their citizens it is for their own good don't you know. WHen right wing governments oppress their citizens it is for money.

Communism was never a "threat" for the fringe left and much of the media is left wing; this is the simple version.

Fair points but I'd say that ferreting out the truth from a place like North Korea would also be too much like work, you know real investigating, for most of the main stream media who much prefer to tweet about information that is fairly easy to come by.

Communism also has really 'soft' words to define it; it's about communal living, sharing, everyone being the same status. On the surface it's benign, even desirable. The problem is though that removes all power from the masses and makes it the most ripe environment for dictatorship because power itself still needs to exist, does exist, and it's more tempting to those who seek it, there are no checks and balances. So you end up with a supreme authority which is not unlike a fascist dictatorship.

Well look it's simple North Korea has no oil or precious metals and they will fight back. Where's the money? Koreans are lazy and won't take responsibility for themselves why should Canada help them? Why don't they get jobs?

Okay people.

North Korea is only Communist by American standards.

The rest of the world calls it a Dictatorship, which is what it is.

And why are some of you all of a sudden interested in NK?

Why no concern for the lack of media coverage on Burma (Myanmar) which has truly been taken over by those Communists.........

Let us look at the leadership facts Britain, conservative right wing government
America a right wing government less so with Democrats but both are right of center
Canada Right wing Government
Germany right wing government
France center left government.
Greece has moved to the right
Italy primarily a right wing wing government
The statement about the left wing abuses being ignored because of right and left is
nonsense.
The reason the abuses are not mentioned is economic. Right Wing governmentments
and the corporate masters have cheap labour with a handful of selected despots
running them even this is a misnomer as China was a left of center regime now
an abusive fastist regime. Remember fscists (Nazis) are right wing not left.
Korea is just an insane regime it does not count left or right they are crazy people.
We in the west hold out Cuba as the bad guy and put an embargo on them. Mostly
because the fascist Cubans living in Florida want to go back treat the people in Cuba
like surfs again. The other bad guys Vietnam, China, and a host of other we sign trade
deals with so we can lower the wages here at home. The Western Powers can forgive
or overlook anything if the price is right. Was the hidden message here "Left wing
governments are bad? If so and sometimes that is true, Right wing governments are
Worse, they profit from the abuses and ensure multi national corporations profit.to the
max. Hope that answers your question. Now lets all go check our retirement share
prices this morning.

"Koreans are lazy"........And how did you come to that determination?

"won't take responsibility for themselves"........Again, you will have to expound on how you arrived at this determination.

"Why don't they get jobs?"........Well okay you got me. It's not April 1 but now I see you're just being sarcastic.........

Because it's "over there" being done by cranially incomplete people, not here being done by people that should know better. And why would NK actually pay any attention to anyone that disagrees with what NK does?

Not much that can be done about it short of all out war. This isnt the first time the international community has just sat back and watched. It wont be the last either. This commission hasnt revealed anything that wasnt already known.

I wouldnt really call their government "communist." Kim Il Sung more or less discarded 'communism' and came up with his own system, Juche. North Korea resembles a cult far more than 'communism.' Or it can be referred to as Orwellian. 1984 didnt look all that different. Also, Kim Il Sung has been dead for decades now but is still considered to be the head of state. That seems to be just a little insane.

We have a number of oppressive groups right here at home.
condo nazis to churches to schools who think they can dictate
the lives of children both at school and increasingly at home.
There are all kinds of oppression. Communist States and the
religious fascist States like Iran are oppressive toward gays
and other religions. In Russia no longer Communist they are
oppressive to several groups including gays.
In America and Canada we have the Christian Community
who are oppressive to a lot of groups including gays and others
oppression is oppression and it shouldn't come with a label
communist oppression is bad? Other oppression is alright?

Fear on the other hand is overcome when the oppression reaches a specific point.
In the west we are more and more polarized and we protest oppression from one
sector while we advocate oppressing others from another sector.
In some countries in the world the first thing liberated people do is oppress another
group. israel a nation founded as a safe haven from the oppression of others has
not exactly been kind to some of their neighbours. I am not anti Israel by any means
I am merely making a point. Oppression does not come only with Communism it
comes with ignorance and fear is at the very core of that thinking.
