Apparently Egypt's military disqualified a candidate from running in upcoming presidential elections. That started today's riot, but more angry people joined and the angry mob tried to storm the defense ministry.
BBC News - Scores injured in fresh Egyptian clashes

Last year, protestors succeeded in ousting Mubarak, but another dictator took over and nothing changed. Get ready for round two...

No hope for Egypt..

news article:

At the Council on Foreign Relations, Elliott Abrams notices some good news from Egypt. According to a new poll from the International Peace Institute, 63 percent of Egyptians are in favor of the peace treaty with Israel, while only 14 percent oppose it. In addition, a whopping 82 percent support continued liberalization of the country and the economy, while only 10 percent have a favorable opinion of the head of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Rather than banning Mubarak era people from being involved in the new Gov they may be a good solution if they make known to 'reformers' the way the corruption operated in the old Government. Those same players might be on 'probation' and watched very closely to verify they are actually reformed. (given that like any nation the military id the ultimate government and democracy is not much more than relieving them from the 'less important' aspect of running a nation. (zero military presence until after a war starts is the right way to go as the funds go to keeping the infrastructure running) You can fight a war (current spending levels qualify for war time spending levels) and have the economy grow at the same time only in fantasy land. Citizens can't be overrun as there is always gorilla warfare.

PressTV - Mubarak remnants are still in power

If citizens wanted the best protection they would make politics a business and hold election for advancements in the ranks of the Military as voting for themselves allows for errors in judgment, just like the Clergy in the RCC and other Churches should be put into power by the wishes (vote) of the various congregations. That part could actually be implemented and no defense is in danger of being breeched, quite the opposite keeping his voters safe may stop the use of black prisons while he is in charge.

I won't go so far as to say the citizens get to vote for 50 F-35's over S-400 system when the price is 1/25 and the system never needs a day off. If that doesn't keep them safe then it is down to fighting building by building. The robotic system is going to work better and the military brass doesn't need 10 more systems as back-ups to claim the air, ground personnel can then do their job should an invasion be successful. (training as you go because people pick it up quicker when their life is on the line rather than being there on a week-end when there are better things to do)

The real change comes when the issue of the old Gov's debt becomes the issue. Iceland canceled paying it off and jailed the ones who ran it up in the first place. Right or wrong it was the will of the people. If history runs true they would be in for 50 years of embargoes and and an over abundance of doctors and medical people if Cuba is used as the recovery from dictatorship is an accurate model. Iceland should be on that same recovery path although they should have had the IMF build the facilities to export electricity before firing the crooks.

(Iceland could get the contract if they agreed to supply the Rothschild needs first and foremost now that Germany has canned N power)
