Yep, sometime in March or April, Atlas Shrugged is going to hit the big screen. And boy oh boy, are the lefties ever pissed! That isn't the sound of popcorn being made or bubble wrap being popped, it's liberal heads exploding!

What I find humourous about all this is that these are the same bobbleheads that will watch crap like 'Broke Butt Mountain' or pay to see Michael Moore crockumentaries...and they are absolutely livid that a prophetic 60 year old novel should hit The Big Screen.

I am something of a chit house objectivist myself and I personally think that as entertainment, Atlas Shrugged was a flop. It reads like a poor 1940's black and white movie and it slogs for the most part. It is a good primer for the evils of socialism - but such education is wasted on stupid people that can't see the intuitively obvious flaws in it anyways. I don't have high hopes for this flick, I have seen what happens when Hollywood flakes dumb down great literary works for the ignorant masses with short attention spans - and hold little hope of this latest effort being worthwhile.

In any event, after the disappointing dreck coming from Hollywood these days...this is at least a slight improvement. Hopefully the trend continues.

I read Atlas Shrugged and I can honestly say that it was the WORST book I ever read! My grade 9 science teacher suggest that I pick it up and it wasn't until years later that I realized that Atlas Shrugged was filled with atheist philosophy. Mr. Cecil was trying to brainwash me! See what happens when you take prayer and Christianity out of school?!

Maybe we should try and put education in the Church and see if that helps a little?

You do get that exposing children to different philosophies is not the same thing as expecting them to agree with them right? Challenging your mind is not the same thing as brainwashing you.

If you think Atlas Shrugged was the worst book you've ever read, then you need to read more. I think it was a poorly written book, but by no means the worst I've read. Ann Rice would be up there with bad authors, and there was a Robert Ludlum book that I couldn't even finish, it was just too boring.

Are you trying to claim that someone suggesting you read a book shows what happens when you take Christianity out of school? Sounds like you're suggesting that, with good old Christianity, nobody needs to read or think about ideas, especially ones you don't agree with. I guess if that's what you think Christianity is, and it works for you, all the more power to you. However, I suggest you think about the fact that if you don't examine ideas, you'll be completely helpless.

I think it has MUCH LESS to do with challenges young minds and has more to do with spreading what people perceive as the "absolute truth". Atheists want the next generation to be on their side because they think that anyone who believes in God has a "trapped mind" and won't be able to contribute to society through science, medicine etc. They don't want kids growing up and talking about the "Kingdom of God" about being "born-again" or being "baptized in the holy spirit". This sounds like crap to them and they want it out of schools for a reason.

They may think that all they are doing is challenging young minds but in reality they DO want young people to grow up agreeing with their philosophy. This makes sense because its only natural to want people to agree with you if you're certain that you've found the "truth". Who would want their fellow human beings to be stuck in darkness and ignorance?

I guess you would be an expert in that.

If its as bad as the book, I'm sure it'll be out of theatres in a couple of weeks, and might be relegated to a Direct to Video release. The only thing for sure is Ayn Rand didn't know her ass from a hole in the ground.. about capital, socialism or anything else.

Because its not like we read the book as a class and then discussed its ideas in a public setting and debate about it! That would have been awesome because the ideas in the book could have been refuted! Instead Mr. Cecil gave me the book in private, told me to read it, and then that was the end of it.

I think its great exposing kids to ideas - but it should be discussed with peers extensively AND Christianity should also be discussed. It should included in the market place of ideas - which it isn't.

I guess you would be an expert in that.

Expert in what TenPenny?! What don't you clarify what your saying instead of trying to be a wise crack!

Okay, here goes: you are criticizing those that you consider atheists etc for constantly promoting their veiwpoint and trying to win over converts. You, however, constantly promote your viewpoint and try to make people believe they will suffer for not following along your path.

That's what I meant about being an expert.

At the time I read it (high school), I thought it was useful and important. A few years later I re-read it, and realized what hopeless crap it was, although I will admit I've read most of her books. Right up there with 'A Horseman Riding By'.

How did religion get into this you feather headed dingle nuts? Cripes you can post something about gardening and before ya know it some rabid atheist is claiming that the brussel sprout is proof positive that there is no God. Focus, damn you all!!!

I remember the finest piece I ever wrote on an internet forum - was written about atheists. At the time, Elton John had shocked everyone when he said the Bible should be banned because religion is the cause of all the world's problems. It was then that I penned my award winning scholarly piece entitled "Bloated British Butt Blaster Blames Bible". Even the lefties liked it and said the title alone was worth a Pulitzer.

I never did get the Pulitzer...but the Pulitzer is much like a Nobel or a case of the clap - not something ya really wanna get anyways to be honest.

If you read closely, the interjection of religion came from someone who rants against atheists.

What's funnier still, is that after asking the forum to focus, you continue to threadjack your own thread.

I don't really look at it as me "ranting" against atheists. My perspective is that I'm representing the Christian viewpoint on a fairly Godless forum (which I love being a member of).

Well, Atlas Shrugged is a book filled with atheist philosophy, and atheism has an opinion on religion. Seems to me that its only natural to discuss religion if were going to discuss an atheist book.

Alright, but doesn't everyone think their some sort of expert? That just seems to be human nature. Look at Cliffy, he will tell you that truth is relative, that what's true for me isn't necessarily true for him. But then he holds this idea of relative truth as the absolute truth(which is contradicting) and expects me to accept it. "I know and you don't" sort of thing.

Plus, I've been in both positions, Godless and Godly. I may not be an expert, but I know some things.
