I saw one several years ago now, while I was morel picking on the east side of the base, south of the golf course. It was running, or bounding rather, along with a group of other deer, maybe 8 or 9 in all. But my view was obstructed by the hundred yards or so of maple wood which stood between us, such that upon first glance it appeared to be a large white chicken at full stretch, after something fast and tasty! My first thought was what's that big white chicken running after over there? (
heh heh, and I hadn't even eaten any mushrooms, Alice!) Then I noticed all the other deer it was with and realized it was a white deer. I think it had flecks of light brown in its coat so it wasn't likely an albino, just a white deer. The morels were bountiful and extra tasty that year, as I recall.
