ok so what is with society where people have a car or truck and they must speed?
speed limit is 110 yet they need to go 130 or 140 and up (god knows why?)
limit is 50 yet they need to go 60 or 70!
speed limit is 80 and of course gotta go 90, 100 even 110
I don't buy the excuse that our vehicles are designed to be able to handle higher speeds, that's not an excuse to do it!
funny, this morning, as I always do. I sit in the right lane, plant it at 110 and drive.
I swear almost every single vehicle, whether it was in the left or right lane behind me was cruising past me! at least 120!
the reason I do 110 and not budge is I want to get the most out of my tank of gas. I know that if I drive faster, i'll use up more gasoline. besides, there's no need to go faster than 110, I get to work on time!
so why do we (most people) have to speed?
Other than what you heard her say (maybe she was just bragging and blowing hot air) you know absolutely nothing about her. You are just using your biased opinion to assume something not in evidence...
The biggest hazzards on the road are the slow pokes who drive 20 to 40 clicks below the speed limit.
there was no need to assume, the exact words were spoken, and the idea that she was blowing hot air,
is an assumption on 'your' part, I heard the facts and didn't create anything else from them.
absolutely not, it is the reaction of 'others', to those who drive too slow, the impatience and arrogance
for others to comply with what 'they' want, and won't take the time to adjust their thinking.
the slow drivers are just something we all have to live with, but they do nothing to cause accidents,
and each person who is having a hissy fit because a slow drivr is in front of them should take a
second to examine their own behavior, heart beat, blood pressure and language, compared to the slow
driver who probably is calm, happy and doing the best he/she can behind the wheel.
If you want to dawdle then pull over and let traffic by. Slow drivers cause others to take chances which wouldn't be necessary if they were doing the speed limit or getting out of the way.
If you want to give credibility to someone who "brags and blows hot air", that is your perfect right. I think Talloola's "track record" is better.
slow drivers don't cause anybody to do anything, they make those decisions all by themselves, and if
they take chances it is their own fault. careless and dangerous driving cannot be blamed on anyone
but the person behind 'that' wheel, the slow driver is just irritating, but shouldn't cause anyone
to do anything stupid.
Just a response to your remark "if the speeding actually occurs"...............one minute you express doubt of the occurrance and the next you say the majority of the population speeds. That last remark is absolutely correct, but that doesn't make it right and with 5000 Canadians dying in traffic accidents every year, that is a testament that the population by and large are lousy drivers. The speeding probably isn't quite as bad as "the hurry" & the attitude is reprehensible.
Um, look at the posts. Talloola is the one trying to give credibility to a teen blowing hot air, not me. From what I've seen, Talloola's track record is nothing to brag about.
What facts? She said she liked speeding etc. No facts as far as any consequences from her 'actions' if the speeding actually occurred. I guess you still have your head in the sand.
Slow drivers are irritating ... and it's the irritated driver who'll do something stupid and drag somebody else into it. Everyone bears some responsibility out there.
Hey, Talloola, some guys are just impossible to debate with (like one who just left the forum) and anyone who defends speeding and police thuggery loses all credibility with me.
unless a slow driver is weaving on the road or doing something which makes him/her obviously
dangerous while driving, they have no part in anyone elses decision to be impatient and do something
dangerous and risky because they have no patience for the slow driver, and slow driver in my mind isn't
someone going 5 mi an hour, it's someone who is probably doing the speed limit, which hardly anyone
does, or 5 mi per hr under the limit, suck it up everyone give the person a break, just because they
can't drive the speed you can, doesn't mean they don't belong on the road, we stop and sit at a
crosswalk and let old people, handicapped people, and doddling teenagers cross the road, we have to
have patience, and we do it, and it is right to do it, 'do the right thing'.
Some people are efficient at a slower speed, usually older people and some women as well, that is
their right, they are citizens allowed to drive just like everyone else.
How about because in many places the speed limit is arbitrarily set too low? Case in point: When the island Hwy. was finished to Pt. Hardy the speed limit was set at 90km. After all the Mayors and councilors got tired of speeding tickets and protested it was raised to 110 which is reasonable although there is only one corner that is unsafe over 110 and that is on the old stretch between Campbell river and Sayward and the limit there is 90km. That corner has a slow to 70 sign.
Now there are places such as school zones where speed is definitely stupid but on open roads it is different.
Taxslave- I surveyed the Centre line for the stretch from the Salmon Crossing up Elk Creek right to Eve River Summit in 1970-71. There is quite a bit more than horizontal alignment that goes into setting the speed limit. Sure theres lots of places where you can physically drive that highway at 140 kmh. - no problem. Where you run into problems is stopping sight distances, especially when you are on a 7% downgrade and it's raining and a deer jumps out in front of you.
If you buy the latest Corvette you will be capable of something around a 180 mph. The hot, high end mustang will certainly hit a 150mph. There is a Mazda hatchback that will do a 150 mph. My little Corolla will do a 120mph. Why don't we put governors on all these cars and limit them to the allowed speed. I don't think anyone would be happy with that. Better yet why don't we teach people to drive like the do in Europe and eventually do away with speed limits on major highways.
Yeh, right, with typical Canadian roads being ice/snow covered 4-5 months of the year. I think if people want to speed they should buy a plane ticket. But the idea has possibilities as far as enabling population control.
