Daniel Baldwin is urging the public not to judge Lindsay Lohan too harshly - insisting the troubled star's problems are not her fault because addiction is "a disease".
Lohan was released from a California jail on Monday after serving less than two weeks of a 90-day sentence for violating her probation relating to a 2007 DUI arrest.
She has now checked into rehab to spend 90 days receiving treatment for her addictions as part of her sentence.
Baldwin, who spent years battling a raging drug habit and endured nine stints in rehab, insists Lohan deserves sympathy because she "doesn't have a choice" when she turns to alcohol or illegal substances.
He tells TV show Larry King Live, "This woman has a disease. She doesn't have a choice in it. She has a disease. So it's not a fault thing. It's now a matter of whether or not she's going to go and get her (therapy) and decide that she's going to try to beat this disease, or she's going to succumb to it and end up killing someone in a car or die of an overdose...
"It's no different than any other disease. She suffers from an affliction that is treatable, and she can keep it in remission. But there is no cure for addiction."

And Baldwin is adamant Lohan needed to be forced into rehab by the courts otherwise she might never have addressed her problems. He adds, "Lindsay is Lindsay's own worst enemy right now. She just keeps getting her way, because she won't surrender to the fact that she has this disease and this problem. So it's going to probably take the L.A. court system and a smart judge to put the screws to her a little bit to get her to see the light of day."

well I didn't watch it on TV! I read it online this morning!

She has a choice.

damn right she has a choice! I don't buy it for a second.

what is she doing as an actress and having a license if she doesn't have a choice?

she is then considered dangerous to society and perhaps locked away in the rehab indefinitely.

"Celebrity is news. Everything else is entertainment" - Marshall McLuhan (media genius)
A corollary: to developmentally-challenged people.

Along with the opinions of drug crazed clown Marshall McLuhan, anything the Baldwin Brothers say (with the exception of Stephen Baldwin) must be taken with a ton of salt.

Ah. More ignorance from the master of it. There's an awful lot of very talented and very intelligent people who have used various substances for whatever reason. And an awful lot of some very despicable tea-totallers.
McLuhan's views on media are a cornerstone of the industry. He was highly and widely respected for his work and still is.
Unfortunately, ignorance seems to be your drug of choice. Also unfortunately, there is no apparent need for your area of expertise.

Her disease is narcissism and having more money then brains.

I love when celebrities have some sort of run-in with the law and they preemptively run off to some celebrity rehab in order to rehab their reputations.

maybe Hollywood needs to re-invent the blacklist? ban people who can't clean up their act from making movies.

Now that is a very good answer for celebrities who continually abuse themselves and of course others who may look up to them.

'Blacklist the celebrity for a few years" Then they can watch their youth disappear.

well, if they can't work.. they have to make themselves straighten up, get a real job.. work hard, get clean.. then perhaps reapply down the road.

Get a real job? You realize that most of these celebs have more then enough money to not work for a couple thousand years?

Yes but they spend it on things like drugs and booze like they had less than a 1000 days.
