Perhaps we should have Earth Hour where we switch off heating for one hour. Then watch all these yahoos putting the heat up to 90 or 100 degrees in response to that, and swelter in heat, sweating like a stuck pig. But hey, they will have given it in the neck to Earth Hour.
LW you are wasting your time and so am I...the guy has a reading problem...the link I posted compares the usage with another saturday night with similar overall temperature...
And by the way my heating bill this winter is much lower than last year....it's a wonder his is higher with all the hot air coming out
I had a second look at the data posted here and all that is to be found is propaganda by wwf....hardly unbiased
even on the internet I couldn't find anything from ontario hydro for last year or previous years....
Coincidentally, IESO also has some market research if you search their website, asking Ontarians about what they plan to do, during Earth hour, and what they can do about energy efficiency. If people are already implementing energy saving measures as a result of previous Earth hours, or otherwise, then the yearly gains on one day would be expected to be less.
Conservatives support very few environmental initiatives, Extrafire. They normally donít believe in saving the environment. To them, human beings come first, anything else (animals, environment, ecology) can perish..
I donít think it needs a rocket scientist to figure out that dumping raw sewage into lakes and rivers is a safety issue. If you happen to drink that water it will make you sick.
An environmental issue is one where there no immediate danger to safety, but there may be long term danger. That is where drilling in Alaska, cap and trade etc. come into picture.
I missed my chance last summer ...they put one of them power saver meters while I was out of town...I could have had a receiver inside the house to be able to monitor power usage...but they will soon implement a schedule when you can dry your clothes and other high energy use equipment during off peak hours for cost saving.
Right now that option is only available to industry.
The paper mill here uses certain high power draw machinery only during off peak hours ......Although the paper machines run 24 hrs
I hear that option will be available to everybody soon.....maybe they have it down south already..
Is everyone keeping up with SJP's unilateral revising of the definition of "environmental"? Have the dictionary publishers been notified? Has Wiki been updated? Have the environmental activist groups been told to modify their activities to conform to the new paradigm?
What a pathetic attempt to maintain your illusiory view that conservatives don't care about the environment.
I'm very much in favor of conservation of endangered species. I'm very much opposed to taking an act that is supposed to protect endangered species and using it to further political goals.
You have simply confirmed what I thought. That you don't support any major environmental initiative. You will support doing something about the environment only when there is an immediate danger to safety, like pouring raw sewage into lakes, or banning lead for gas.
And that indeed would be the typical conservative position. Conservatism and environmentalism do not mix.
Try one of those timer thingies?

Anna: Our hot water heater is High efficiency gas heater also the furnace and the clothes dryer is gas (cheaper)
Outdoor lights are motion detector so they don't turn on unless you walk in the yard...also have an inside switch to turn them off when there is a windy day like today(Hot and cold air currents tend to turn them on).
And since in my part of the country vehicles need block heaters to start good in the winter...I would rather use a remote to switch the power on the block heater about three hour before I need the vehicle...(also cheaper)
Which is why I laugh at those pseudo armchair environmentalists that pat themselves on the back for turning off the lights for one hour a year.......
Well, my advice to you is, listen to your brother. He has a Ph.D., he knows a thing or two.
Indeed. Any time conservatives think that North Korean dictator is a great guy (for sticking up to environmentalists), that has to be the weirdest match of the century. Anyway, I will remember this the next time a conservative criticizes North Korea. According to conservatives, North Korean dictator is a good guy as far as environment is concerned.
Of course not. It's an external component that the market won't consider until there is an actual cost associated. That can be done with cap and trade, or with a pigovian tax. The market will decide which is the most effective method to meet targets. Scrubbers happened to be the best available technology for the price. This wasn't because of government say so, but because of market R&D and financial planning.
