Bible bashers knocking on your door

Is this rife in your country? Or in the area you live in? In NZ almost every weekend whether invited or not we have Christian bible bashers knocking at our door ...

Their soul purpose is to convert us... Before any Christians get their knickers in a twist I do not have anything against Christians or any other religious folk. I have my own beliefs which is entirely spiritual but that's not the topic here (lol)

Now these bible bashers as we call them here in NZ merely harass us, we tell them over and over that we are not interested in their religion, books or beliefs and that we have our own and don't take kindly to having our weekends interrupted.

We even electrified the gate once, which was freaking funny as you can imagine!

All joking aside, do you find this rude?

Now for something funny and this is a true story!!! told to me by my son... His flatmate's (roomies) got a knock on the door by the bible bashers on a typical bible bashing Saturday visit to the misinformed... Knock knock on the door, the flatmate didn't have the heart to tell the BB's he wasn't interested so let them in with their wee briefcase of goodness knows what! Books n' stuff!

Well my son seeing whom they had let into his pad decided to gap it and so left quickly (lol) ... 1.5 hours later he comes home to see they were still there and he could hear water splashing from his hallway! (bathroom off hallway) He wondered what the heck was going on and to his amazement here are his two flatmate's, BOTH in the bath end for end in their underpants (of course) but nuthin else on and these two religious bible bashers chanting their stuff!
Well my son was p*ssing himself with laughter so hard he was rolling around on the floor holding his tummy as he couldn't stop laughing. Consequently the BB's were not impressed and left with their briefcases and the two flatmate's (roomies) were relieved my son came home to save them and my son only wished he got pix! he said it was the funniest thing on earth he had ever seen!

Anyways, what are your thoughts on having religion pushed on you or brought to your door whether you are religious or not? Gone are the days of vacuum cleaning salesmen in NZ why should we have bible bashers intruding... Especially when they have been told a dozen times "thank you but we're not interested" .. they still keep coming....

lol... here, 'bashing' something typically means denigrating it. A Bible basher would be Gilbert, Porter, Cliffy, or ScottFree.

But, since I do know what you mean, yes, yes we have them here too.

Personally, I find pushing your beliefs on someone else, cutting down their belief system, is frustrating and tacky as hell. There's just no way for an evangelical door thumper to not, by nature, make you feel that you've gotten it 'wrong'.

Preachy atheists are no better btw....

It's not exactly rife where I live, I see them only a few times a year, but that might just be because they don't do well at my house and have taken note of it. Apropos of your cultural differences thread, we'd call them Bible Thumpers, not Bible Bashers. Generally there are two kinds around here, Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons. The latter are easy to spot, clean cut young men dressed far too well to be anything else, and they have name tags pinned to their shirts. The JW's aren't as obvious, but there are usually some signs. They tend to be an adult and a child, both carrying a handful of pamphlets, and it's the child, usually a female, who gets sent to the door while the adult loiters a few metres away on the sidewalk. I think they figure people are less likely to be rude to a child, and it's a matter of dogma in those two groups that everybody has to do a certain amount of witnessing for the faith. I generally don't bother to answer the door when I see them, but if I get caught (open the door without looking to see who it is), I usually don't bother trying to discuss anything with them, I just tell them I'm not interested and shut the door.

I do find the concept of preaching door to door, uninvited, rude and pushy. And the JW (an adult that time) who stuck his foot in the door to prevent me closing it, and began to harangue me, got the full weight of my 200 pounds against the door, and his foot. Haven't seen him since.

My Father was an Athiest, my mother a presbutton....we never attended church as were not a church going family except for traditional funerals and weddings. You have a great way with words Karrie :) Pushing any belief is so wrong, I agree and not just bible bashers (lol at bible thumpers) (sounds like a big rabbit)!

Aaahh. I gather we are speaking of the book of confusion. :D

It's ok here in the rural area. A goof friend of ours remarried to a nice lady who happens to be JW. She pops in about once a month./ We discuss things, sometimes she brings reinforcements. :D I remain atheist. lol Wifey, too. But we have a good chat usually. Perhaps 10 % of the conversations are about the irrational stuff, the rest is socializing.

I'd have to second Dex in that it's the JW's and Mormon's who attempt to get others to join their dangerous cults by actually stepping foot on your property.

Look at how well Evangelicalism is doing across the globe I might add, by doing the exact opposite. Inviting others through public events to hear the good news.

Praise God, because his techniques for reviving the church are truly working! Too bad you knuckleheads missed the doc "Hip 2B Holy".

Alley, as much as I think you're a pretty good sort, calling JWs "dangerous" is a bit of a stretch.I suppose the Dalai Lama is dangerous, too? lmao
Anything that doesn't espouse the evangelical lunatic fringe dogma is dangerous, doncha know?

Why aren't there door to door atheists?

Good idea, Kreskin. Perhaps Atheists should form an organization ‘Atheists for World Evangelization’ or something like that. They could get tax exempt status and then go door to door trying to convert people to Atheism.

We could print a cheap magazine, like Watch Tower and try to sell it door to door. What a horrible thought!

There was a time (25 years ago) that I was considered an expert on New Age philosophy. I was also very good at mimicking the evangelical speech patterns. A few times when I was broke I would fantasize starting my own Evangelical New Age church. The fantasy would only last moments though, because I knew that I would not be able to live with myself sucking in the gullible.

I remember ‘Marred with Children’ did a really excellent show on this idea, where Al Bundy starts a Church.

His aim in starting the church was to get tax free beer (they had just increased tax on beer), but his church becomes very popular, he goes national, becomes a televangelist.
