I thought I would start this thread for all of us who have come over from the Canada.com Forum.

We certainly started off pretty well but recently have been made to feel not so welcomed.

Many of us are long time posters who do not believe in name calling, trashing of others and are not trolling as some of you suggest.

Perhaps you may find it a bit overwhelming to have us all come over so quickly and have so many of us know all the quick commands of "Forum" posting but I can assure you were are not here to "Hijack" your Forum..

A few rules we tried to follow on our own Forum before Canada.com ran into financial problems while upgrading the site..

1) Most, but not all of us, don't believe in name calling. However that said we can take a jab of sarcasm and can dish it out..

2) If we are disrespected we generally break off a debate / conversation.. We feel most of us are adult enough to leave well enough alone and our live have enough stress in them not to come here and add more..

3) We try to remain on topic but like all of you ( and yes all of you have been guilty ) get off topic from time to time.. No need to get snippy about it..

4) Please keep in mind that many of us do not get to post as often and as much as others. This is a fact of Forum and real life..

Considering the topics we discuss, we are bound to get into heated conversation. Religion, Politics and so on always created controversy amongst the best of friends. This does not mean you have to be ignorant about the topic and many of us have opinions we are entitled to..

Although our Forum will probably be back up soon, many of us would like to stay here, and hope to become a part of your group.

Yours truly,
SirFrancis2004

The only forum that is pretty rule-free is the Steel Cage (noted 'SC' in a thread topic). There should'nt be name calling in the other forums. We understand that some things can be said in the heat of the moment but please let us know (by using the report function in a post) when someone crosses the line.

I like people and I think that I understand where you are coming from. If I had been where you were and then had to find another site I would be devastated.
I hope thank we can make a transition and integrate into a single group rather than what seems to be occurring now.

You cannot account for people sometimes so I just let it run off my back.

I welcome you to CanCon and I hope your stay is a pleasant one.

regards,
scratch

Whoo.... glad I've been missing all these growing pains while I've been 'away' (code for lurking and trying to not look at my computer). I'd highly recommend that people remember the many times we've seen stuff like this on forums. It almost always goes the same way. Lots of misunderstandings, personal grudges that become group grudges, silliness and chaos in general. Try not to take it too personally, it all irons out in the end.

You're the drama of the day, but soon you'll just be another member.

Personally I welcome you all, even if you've accidentally stirred up some waves splashing into the pool.

Yes, listen to the tiger. She is quite wise, and ferocious when we are disobedient :D

I guess this would be a good time to say welcome to you all myself. Your presence brings more diversity, and I'm a huge fan of biodiversity! Just don't bring any invasive species with you ehh? ;)

I am another "more the merrier" fan.
The more people debating thread the more interesting and lively the discussion becomes.

I am reasonably new here myself
I have no problem with taking pot-shots at other peoples ideas and it seems to me that others have no trouble lobbing a few shells back in return.
Must come with posting your personal views in a widely frequented public forum.

I must admit I have a tough time trying to debate people who rapidly turn to swearing and public insults as a form of response.

Advocating that others of different political views, religious backgrounds, sexuality or the like should "shut-up" or not be allowed to publicly express their viewpoints is another attitude that tends to get me going.

Every forum seems to have a few posters who seem to believe that the pinnacle of public debate consists of the tried and true: F**k you, Di**head post.
There seems to be no escape.
I guess you just have to roll right on by it.

Sometimes a well place expletive can add a little humour, but when it's used to insult it just totally eliminates any credibility the poster has.

Hello

I, too, would like to say greetings to all you new posters. I enjoy seeing new points of view. I, myself, don't post a lot; just surviving every day takes up most of my time. But I watch. I like to watch. :evil2:

Hi guys/gals. And Spade, I think I love you.

...but I assume it's okay for posters who didn't come over from Canada.com to put their $0.02 in? ;-)

I don't think you guys from Canada.com have anything to worry about, and neither do what you called the "regulars" here. From what I've seen so far you appear to be interesting and useful additions, and it's not like we regulars can legitimately claim any control over who's allowed to say what to whom. It's unreasonable to expect the nature and tone of the place will never change, it's just a function of who's active, and as long as things remain interesting, lots of people will be. That's why I come here. It's already very different from what it was when I started, and has gone through several significant changes, some of which I was directly involved in. Read the Rules page? It's based on a document I wrote during one of our periods of cranky ferment. This is a public forum with relatively few rules and, as far as I can tell, benign and sensible mods. Besides, all you have to do to become regulars yourselves is just hang around long enough. There are no other qualifications.

I welcome you all.
