A long time ago, there was a poor woman who met a rich man. Through many hardships, thier relationship grew to one of love. One day, when the poor woman was visiting the rich man's large city from her small town, they met for luch at a small English Pub called The Spotted Dick. The place was a popular lunch location, so most seats were filled. To rectify the problem, the pub manager had put a tabletop over the pool table allowing for bar type seating all around. The man and woman found seats at this makeshift table.
During the course of the meal, the man suddenly proposed marriage. Although the woman was not easily caught off guard, she was completely surprised by this turn of events. After assuring that the man was sincere and had really thought this out, she gleefully accepted his proposal. They were to be wed.
The man returned to work, but afterwards the two met up again. The man took her to Spence Diamonds, a huge reputable diamond retailer. They walked into the glittering showroom and the man told her to choose anything she wanted. After looking at everything, the woman chose a lovely half carat set with three smaller diamonds in a gold band. The soon-to-be-husband made the purchase and the engagement was set "in stone".
All this happened exactly 8 years ago today. The rich man isnt quite so rich anymore and the poor woman isn't nearly so poor, but so far they have lived happily every after.
And that ring still gleams brightly on my hand.
