16-20 A true Englishman and proud. Is your name George, by any chance?

Well.....actually, both my Uncle and Grandfather are (or were rather...they're both dead now) were called George....Mmy uncle considered it a curse actually (George Snr. was a really bad man and he couldnt live with the name)...But supposedly Ii look like a mixture of both.

And George was Turkish!!!....I support Boniface being taken from the Germans and made our national patron!!

Why do you north Americans do that?.......I mean, my name is Darren (Means great in Gaelic) Hockey (Do you have any idea of the number of Irish republic presidents are called Hockey?....But I'd never describe myself as British Irish!! lol

3 reasons. Everyone here except for "first nations" folks had an origin somewhere else on the planet, I'm first one in my family born in Canada, and Canada is multicultural; not a "melting pot" like the USA.

I don't understand what you were saying about hockey and Irish presidents.

The Hockey (that would be my surname) and Irish Pres's bit...it's not spelt EXACTLY the same, but Haughey has been used by a number of irish premieres....my sister-in-law swears it's incredibly Irish (it is actually).

yep, and my mum's lot moved to Liverpool before the first world war, so you could say I'm about 50% Irish, but I'd just never consider writing I'm British Irish like some Americans and so write it, know what I mean?.

Sure. I know whatcha mean. But that's you. I am me, an Irishman born in Canada. The UK's been around a helluva lot longer than Canada. You're a Brit, probably born in the UK.

But if it bothers you, I'll stick with "I'm Irish" or "I'm Canadian", whichever one pleases you. I'm easy to please..

Either way, I'm still not a Scot, although I have a few friends that are.

Um, I see what you mean about "hockey" and "presidents." Thanks.

nah it doesnt bother me one bit my man, it just reminded me of a stand-up comic Ii saw last night, he suggested the following:

On the subject of north Americans:
"how come we've got all these Americans claiming to be irish eh?" sounded funnier honest and...
"ah the US, gotta thank em!!, they did us a great favour funded irish terrorists for 30 years!!...got us Trained up for the war on terror!!" lol

How - Canadian passport by birth - both parents held/still hold(early 70's)? landed immigrant status, Fathers job took us back to England.

Why - I can think of several reasons to keep both passports. Safety + ease of travel being the 2 most obvious ones.

Brighton is cool, not so much af the chain bar madness that has swept the high streets of pretty much everywhere else, so lots of small interesting places to go out to. I live just outside (6M) Brighton though - its the nearest city for location purposes.

Edmonton is quite a way from home...
