What was your favourite Christmas present?

And why?

I got a lovely Dell notebook, and I still have to buy it some accessories, but I don't mind since it was free. I like electronics better than almost any other gift.

The grandkids liked the digital piano I got for them. Not only is it a player piano, but a regular piano - or you can add accompaniment to your own playing. I think my oldest granddaughter like her iPod the best 'cause it's a cool thing with her peers.

Oddly enough, despite an MP3 Player and several other intereseting gadgets, my favourite Christmas present is a beautiful beige scarf that I received. Goes awesome with almost every one of my outfits.

Wow ... talk about walking into gay stereotypes...

Well I got something I've always wanted since mine broke about 10 years ago. A shortwave radio . It's great listening to radio stations from all over the world, love it.

Hey, beige is an awesome colour! lol, it goes with practically everything! Except for incompataible shades of beige. Then things can get a bit complicated. =p

hmm... a beige scarf... id probably go for something a bit darker and simpler because i am terrible at matching clothes and it would just be easier for me, but if you can pull it off with most things then go for it. I remember my french teacher in high school would always find some way to make fun of my hats, shoes or types of shirts saying that they didnt match with the rest of my outfit, and hopefully ive learned a bit now. i mean, no girls ever told me that, so hopefully that was a good sign...

My favorite Christmas present would undoubtedly be my Digital Camera. Its a Sony 5.1 mega pixles, and ive wanted one for a few years now.

I got a wonderful present! I love original art. I collect it as I can afford it -- which is not nearly as much as I would like!! One of those loves that you never have enough of.

My physician paints ... he also happens to be Shell's doc as well. There was one painting that I fell totally in love with in his office. Unknown to me, Shell has been making payments on it for months. I was so delighted to open it!!!

Here is a pic of it ....

My doc nags me about the spirit/body healing connection, about remembering to meditate and that my mental health affects my fibro. Easy to say, but easy to forget in the day to day routine.

Every time I look at the painting, it reminds me of health, of well being and of the importance of remembering the healing value of keeping a serene spirit.

Gotta admit ... it's been a great help to me this past week!

Paradox ... a beige scarf is a perfect gift!! What material?? I'm partial to silk, but the damn stuff is so cold.

My favourite gift was a new winter coat and matching earrings to boot. And I too got a scarf but it accents my new coat and earrings. I love it when stuff like this happens.

I like it because the "stereo" I have doesn't play MP3s on CD, so with my new iPod, I just buy a FM broadcaster and boom....MP3s on my stereo.

wonderful story cosmo.

it is true that for any occasion or reason, the thought and connection behind the gift is what is lasting. very touching indeed. i have never experienced something such as your story myself.

Caracal ... took me more than 40 years to find someone that thoughtful! Definitely a keeper.

She got a GameCube and Harry Potter Goblet of Fire so I'm a gamer widow now. At least I have my painting to look at!

I almost bought my daughter a new game cube. I decided not to since we fight over the playstation enough as it is.

*note to self: grow up! *

I guess everyone sees art differently, because it doesn't represent any of that to me. I was rather surprised that you would see it that way. It reminds me of the planet Mars, fire and brimstone,
or a virus under a microscope. Maybe I'm too literal. But, it is interesting how people see art in totally different ways.

My favourite present was a bottle of Babe by Faberge.

I also received a learn to dance video that I'm really enjoying but it seems to be a bit hard on my back (blush). Woke up really stiff this morning.

unclepercy ... it IS a painting of microscopic biology ... he has a whole series of them. They are on the walls among his slightly abstract landscapes (which I like ... they draw you in and I can smell the moss) and his ocean paintings. It's how the painting makes me feel. I have no knowledge of microbiology but find his series on this quite compelling. I just liked it. No idea why.

Who can explain art and ones reaction to it? I'm not big on realism ... unless it black and white photography (shades of Ansel Adams and Mapplethorpe). All my paintings are stylized. This my first "abstract". It just feels good.

Art, to me, is about reaction. I should post one of my other paintings and see what others think of it. I fell in love with it immediately, but the artist found she had received mixed reactions to it in shows.

Hmmm ... could be an interesting new thread I think!

Why don't you create a thread on abstract art? It would be interesting to me. I thought that looked like a virus. Geez - can't believe I was right after all.
