I have a Dad that spent 6 years on the North Atlantic, As a Signalman on Convoy Escort.
He had told me the worst part is remembering seeing a flash off toward the horizon, a boom shortly after, and turning your back to face the Bow - because you had to steam ahead and leave those poor, pitiful bastards to drown. To stop and try to pick up survivors would not only be suicide, but would weaken the protection for the rest of the Convoy.
No, I may not always know what "funny " is - but I can tell you this - IT SURE AIN'T YOU!
