This probably isn't worth it's own thread, but anyway, I started it just to say I'm leaving this forum.

Damn forums are addictive and use too much of my time, so I tried limiting my participation, but when I'm working on my projects I find myself sneaking over to read, even when I don't post. Not only that, but the forum stays in my mind, making it hard to focus on things I really need to focus on.

Of course, reading about the "hate site" I just had to go and look, but you can't look there without registering, so I registered under a different moniker [Dirtman] so as to be incognito, and next thing I know, I'm posting there too. [Hi Cosmo, did you know it was me?]

So it's become a habit that is having a detrimental effect and I can't just taper off. The only way to kick it is the same way I kicked smoking all those years ago, cold turkey, so I'm goin'. I'll be back on Sunday [Aug.21] evening to answer all the posts I can, but after that I won't even be back to read, so you'll be able to talk about me, but not to me.

See you then.

I for one will miss you. Thank you for ALL your input. Take care.

Definitely worth its own thread! Dang, Extrafire, I'll miss you around here. I understand what you mean about cutting out the online stuff. It does take a lot of time.

Nope, had no idea you were Dirtman. :) Good debate, though. I've enjoyed it.

Hope you find you miss us all too much and drop in from time to time to say hello!

I won't deny THAT! But its unfortunate that you have viewed your participation as such.... SURE it's not something one wants to get "hung up on"..... but no one is doing that except YOU! (However, I think you alluded to that "self-awareness" in your post)

What I have found is that it takes getting connected with just a "HANDFULL" of folks.... among the many that put in the occassional thought. (and THAT term might be "generous" with some members..... ask Rev - he knows of which I speak.)

I wouldnt give up so quickly, Sir - you have neither had the time to make yourself well-known - nor have you had the chance to fend off attackers of your position(s)!

(Odd as that may sound, it can be a darned fascinating undertaking.)

Stick around, Sir!

I used to find forums addicting but now I basically just visit this one, Vive and some fishing ones. It was too time consuming to participate in so many.........

But I wish you well Extrafire, and I did enjoy your posts whether I agreed with them or not. Stop in and say hello sometime.

I know how you feel. I started a job and just don't have time to post anymore. As much as I want to show up here, I just can't as often.

I do miss you guys tho.

You'll be back!!
Nope. Last time I quit a forum it lasted for several years. I erased everything to do with it from my computer, and a few months later I couldn’t even remember how to get back. If I really wanted to I’m sure I’d be able to find my way here after a couple years, but by then the addiction will be gone and I’ll still remember how easy it is for me to get caught.

Too dangerous to stop in. Just like having one smoke to remember how good it felt.

Stick around, Sir!

To properly defend/explain my position(s) would take far, far more time than I have been investing thus far.

Much as I'd like to stick around, I cannot.

Bye Ex, sorry it's come to this, but if ya gotta go, ya gotta go. Hard as it may be to believe, I actually do wish you well. We didn't agree on much (and probably wouldn't agree on much if we met in real life either), but you were always decent about it, and I tried to be too.

Besides, if you only talk to people who agree with you on everything, you rapidly run out of things to talk about and you lose your edge in defending your own positions. Our long running exchange in the Evolution Debate thread was a source of much productive thought for me, and even though I knew from the beginning (as I'm sure you did too) that we were never going to agree, I never considered it a waste of time.

All good things,

Dex

Dex, I think you and I [and most everyone else here] would get along great as long as we just stay off a few topics.

Oh how weak I am. I know I said I wouldn’t be back, but I came across a couple very interesting articles re global warming and I just had to post them for you all on the Kyoto thread. I’m sure some of you will have comments and I’ll leave it with you.

So I’ve made 3 more posts, and now I really am gone for good. Honest. I mean it this time.
