What is the deal with recipes?

Is there any form of copyright laws for these?

If I want to take a recipe off the net/out of a cookbook and publish it on my website do I need permission.

Is it illegal to change the ingrediants a bit and call the recipe my own?

If you change the ingredients in any way then you just made an original and are free to post it.

I would think that it would be impossible to copyright a recipe...which is why there are so many secret ones...

So long as you're not scanning images from a copyrighted cookbook and posting them on your website, you should be ok...

Just call it something slightly different, Twila, then if anyone asks, say you've just made the recipe up yourself. How they gonna prove otherwise?

Henry, normally that's exactly the type of thing I'd do.

Except this is for work....can't feck around when it's work...well..I can and I do...but that's different.....

I found out that unless the recipe is patented I can use them as I see fit.

Thanks for the help all.....

Great site Pea!!!!!!

I happen to be a fan of Betty Crocker, and I am telling you right now I will personally call her and Give her the name and Avatar of you Twila if I hear of any Shenanigans of you copying any content from her Recipes.

This is the bottom line: You cannot copyright recipes, but you CAN copyright the directions. Bottom line.

Hope this helps.

was there not a law suit in Ontario some years back when a Menonite group took some woman to Court for marketing chewy cookies?
