We've just released a whole array of Avatars for all users. To select an avatar, while logged in click on "Profile" near the top of the screen. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Show Gallery" under the avatars section. There are several categories to select from.

Right now you Can select your own avatar from offsite, but I dont know how long these guys will allow that for. I just picked my kick butt little avatar from here
