Vietnam was. Dropped more bombs then than WW2 by quite a bit. Drafted people in and kept it going longer than WW2. Still lost.

No country could beat us as the US of A would step on them. They want this land and will let us maintain it for them so they don't have to. Assuredly they would not let, lets say China or any power, occupy any territory so close. They would let themselves become indentured servents to their economy though. You know, cheap toasters and all.
