China’s hypersonic strike vehicle ‘in 3d test flight’

China has reportedly conducted a third flight test for its new ultra-high speed strike vehicle – capable of travelling at up to eight times the speed of sound, in what experts suspect is part of the development of its strategic nuclear program.

The test flight, monitored by US intelligence services this week, was the third in a series of tests of the Wu-14 hypersonic glide vehicle—a high-accuracy, high speed projectile, reports the Washington Free Beacon. The first two were conducted earlier this year.

A Pentagon representative confirmed the test to the WFB, but declined to provide further comment.

“We are aware of reports regarding this test and we routinely monitor foreign defense activities,” Marine Corps Lt. Col. Jeff Pool said. “However, we don’t comment on our intelligence or assessments of foreign weapon systems.”

Lora Saalman, a nuclear policy expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said China’s third test of the Wu-14 in a year suggests an ongoing trend of militarization.

“Not only does this third test of the WU-14 in one year indicate that this is a priority program for China, it also suggests that U.S. historical concerns over a Chinese quantitative ‘sprint to parity’ in nuclear weapons are misdirected,” she was quoted as saying in the Beacon.

Though some form of hyper-sonic weapons has existed for decades, the new missiles being developed by the US, China and others belong to a class of their own because of the “boost-glide” technology which enables them to travel very quickly and at a flat angle. Boost-glide weapons follow a hard-to-trace trajectory which makes them difficult to target using current missile-defense systems.

The weapons "are launched by big rockets just like a ballistic missile is," explained Carnegie nuclear expert James Acton. "But then rather than arcing higher than the atmosphere, they are put on a trajectory to re-enter the atmosphere as quickly as possible. Then they just glide to the target," he was featured as saying in Business Insider this fall.

Experts say hypersonic capabilities are indicative of a large scale military build-up. Mark Schneider, a former Pentagon strategic forces specialist, was quoted as saying in the Washington Free Beacon that China’s latest hypersonic vehicle test poses “a serious threat.”

The US and China have been engaged in what some have dubbed a hypersonic arms race. This summer, the US tested its own hypersonic missile after China ran its second test of the Wu-14. Though both countries had successfully tested hypersonic weapons in the past, both August tests failed.

Russia, not one to stay out of the game for long, has also announced plans to build its first hypersonic missile before 2020. India, too, is involved in the development of the ultra-high speed arms.

I am sure all those gun owners could shoot the thing down, after aren't they kept for protection of home and hearth.

Never mind, all those owners of hand guns and rifles will be able to protect home and hearth.....Oh but wait, wouldn't a nuclear war sort of wipe out hearth and homes all over the globe??

So I guess the answer will be for the world's nations to get bigger and better nuclear weapons......perhaps they will perfect the bomb that simply destroys humanity. The thinking, as I remember was sterilize a country without destroying the land or properties. All ready for the conquerors to move into. LOL. my gawd the human never need wait on aliens or astroids to destroy us, we will do it all on our own long before that. .

Obama and his supporters are the real threat to America, not China. There is no greater challenge than the internal enemy.
So, the worst enemies are within our borders?? Now I wonder why that is?? Could it be because there are those who put profits above sense? The propaganda goes that if we are armed within our own homes, nothing bad can happen. Geez whoever thought children would end up shooting themselves or each other, or spouses in a fit of anger shoot each other. The same stupid thinking is being done but on a global scale. Hope everyone has their bomb shelters in order. But it wouldn't matter anyway, because while some humans survive, the land will not.

The problem with this outlook, is that there will always be someone better armed than we are. React stupidly and wipeout!! Now I will probably enjoy what is left of my life but not sure about children and grandchildren. Because the young generation has never experienced a world war, there is no reason whatsoever to work towards making sure they do. Talk about sadistic.

There are still groups of children sent from Russia to Canada for the summer because they live around the area of where Cherynobyl occurred. Where do we send people after a nuclear war??

You kid.....I hope!! If a nuclear war occurs, and enough nations let loose their nuclear weapons, very likely a firestorm will happen. That leaves no survivors, simply a ruined earth. No place on earth will be radiation free. We are talking destruction on a scale never before seen. Just take a look at what happened when the first atomic bomb dropped. The nuclear weapons we have now make that look like a minor occurrence. There will be no survivors, or if there are, a few days or weeks will take care of that. Lordy, I would prefer to have the earth hit by an asteroid. It may change the earth's orbit somewhat and wipe out some species totally but there would not be poisoning of the land as a nuclear bomb would.

China is in the midst of a massive military expansion and are preparing for a war of area denial. Make the costs to high for the US.
And the EU, well they are ffn useless.

Soo, you are assuming all the Chinese are in agreement with their government's aim?? Just as everyone in the US and Canada are line with all their governments want to do!! The Chinese want a democratic government and have been trying for decades to get there. Why not give them the chance to get independence from totalitarianism before getting into a world wide one-upmanship battle with nuclear weapons.

Google is your friend. Who runs the place.
Do some research, see what area denial means.
And they along with the US are preparing for a confrontation. Excepting the Chines are pushing faster.

Was that from a supersonic fortune cookie that fell from space?

No. I was paraphrasing the famous Roman orator Marcus Tullio Cicero.

I love the stream of consciousness style of composition.

Absolutely true, but irrelevant for our purposes. The Chinese have no intention of transforming my ideas out of existence. But the American left is relentlessly dedicated to creating a new America in which people who think like I do are totally marginalized and disempowered. From my perspective the Chinese are a remote threat while American leftists are the barbarians at the gate who demand immediate attention.

Soo, you are assuming all the Chinese are in agreement with their government's aim?? Just as everyone in the US and Canada are line with all their governments want to do!! Slap a Fed-Ex sticker on it and what would it cost to mail a Hallmark card? I'm thinking delivery vehicle to the moon for letting of the new series of miner rovers, Drop a new payload and pick up the 'treasures that have been sling-shotted into that orbit. Cash in time for shareholders and the machines were paid for by scared citizens who though they were protecting themselves by another fake war. If the US bilked their citizens out of $50T over 50 years then China should clear $5,000T when they do the same for 50 years. I can see what they wouldn't expose the US and I can see why the US can't expose what is going to happen because that would mean they would have to confess to do the same for the last 50 years.

How close to lunar surface could it get and if you rotated the craft so the blunt end was first then it acts like a scoop and any speed lost lis probably goo as that help with a slower re-entry as the weight is the same as liftoff but with fuel tanks empty and the cargo bay has dropped some things off and picked up other things.

My moon conspiracy question, if all the rocks on the surface are there via impacts why is there no fine dust on any of them and why are there no sign of dust drifting around them as there seems to be some dust that covers the moon that is powder form so it should have been the last to settle.

Dragon's teeth? I though that was a sign of eating tainted food, the squinting in pain is what gave a person with the big black pupils made them appear slanted, reptile like. *** on fire syndrome.

"In Greek myth, dragon's teeth feature prominently in the legends of the Phoenician prince Cadmus and in Jason's quest for the Golden Fleece. In each case, the dragons are real and breathe fire. Their teeth, once planted, would grow into fully armed warriors.

Cadmus, the bringer of literacy and civilization, killed the sacred dragon that guarded the spring of Ares. The goddess Athena told him to sow the teeth, from which sprang a group of ferocious warriors called the spartoi. He threw a precious jewel into the midst of the warriors, who turned on each other in an attempt to seize the stone for themselves. The five survivors joined with Cadmus to found the city of Thebes.

The classical legends of Cadmus and Jason have given rise to the phrase "to sow dragon's teeth." This is used as a metaphor to refer to doing something that has the effect of fomenting disputes."

In the movie Jason And The Argonauts from the 1950's the special effects master Ray Harryhausen brought the myth to life.
