We are told (and told) that the long term trend is warmer. Along comes a variant cold year and do we have hopeful doubts (homo saps live on hope). In these circumstances where experts tell us that they forecast warming but our eyes tell us another many homo saps put trust in their eyes.

The wise (that's us) tell us to prepare for what the experts are saying and make use of our present clime to enjoy ourselves by throwing snowballs when we are told we shouldn't be able.

Suzuki has been an embarassing Canadian joke for decades. He has been wrong on every major issue for decades.

DDT, GMO's, global warming etc.. The fact that he has had such a long free run is absolutely amazing

If global cooling gives BC a California like climate they and a lot of others won't complain. Manitoba and east being sub zero more months of the year just means people should probably move rather than 'tough it out'. In a warming trend what would be the difference, move 5 ft back from the oceans current level and start planting two crops a year on the wheat belt? (that isn't scary either)

you're describing nothing more than the improper conflation of weather and climate; many persons do this simply in relation to their lack of fundamental understanding... many anti-GW/AGW/CC agenda-driven persons also improperly conflate weather and climate purposely.

it's always a marvel to see the usual suspects avoid the topic you've actually raised in favour of targeting persons they equate as iconic "messengers" of posiition/information that they personally reject.

Since it took millennium to gain the steady climate we have enjoyed for so long, beware. There will be fluxuations until a new pattern is set. Until the effects of so many humans polluting this planet levels out, it is not going to change. There will be storms of all kinds, of a force never seen before, until the trash being produced levels out.

The pattern seems to be that the weather North American (Canada) has experienced for centuries is moving southward. Much of the snow we used to have seems to have moved south. The climate has changed and there will be years when it reverts back and others when it gets warmer. When the ozone is thinned, we get more heat in the summer and more severe cold in the winter. Combine that with so much more water in the evaporation system and we get snow storms and rain storms that break all kinds of weather records.

Accept it and do what you can to lessen your own footprint on the world.

Well we had summer weather in summer, spring in spring and believe it or not winter weather in winter. For a long time now, we are getting record breaking temperatures in all seasons, rain fall, snow fall severe heat, severe cold. The melting of artic and antartic ice that has been there for centuries. Now, Russia, and a few other countries are waiting to claim the land under all our northern ice and snow. When a submarine from Russian goes under the ice in our northern regions and tries to plant their flag, do you thing nothing is going on??

What steady climate?
When I was young and admittedly, in this forum it was quite a stretch back, it was quite steady, ie, ice storms did not bring down every hydro wire around, rain refreshed the land and did not cause rivers to reach epic levels, snow was expected in the months between Dec. and Mar, not ice storms that took power lines down over 1/4 of the continent, nor flooding in December that wiped out buildings that had stood for two centuries.

There have always been small pockets of unique weather. These days it is no longer small pockets but whole countries, states or provinces that are affected. But hey the deniers will always claim it is normal even as they sit on the roof of their house as it floats downriver.

I recommend snowshoes.
