Anthem to arms: Man performs Star-Spangled Banner with gun

For many people in the United States, guns are as patriotic as apple pie – so using them to play the Star-Spangled Banner may be just about the most American thing there is to do.

In what manages to be an impressive demonstration of accuracy and timing, a video from the Colorado-based Musical Targets group showcases a man performing the American national anthem with a rifle. The man shoots various steel targets – each one designed to sound a specific note when hit – and strings them together to the tune of the song.

Musical Targets, which claims to be “your source for armory harmony,” actually published the video on YouTube back in August, but it just now started spreading rapidly online. The website sells the entire set of musical targets that are seen in the video, ranging from Major 8 chime sets for $250 to a Double Major 16 deluxe set that goes for $600.

“We wanted to add a new dynamic to target shooting, and invite a whole new world of people to the sport,” company CEO Charles Oclassen says on the website.

Describing the enjoyment that shooting musical targets provides, the website asks: “Have you ever NOT had fun shooting at things?”

The company also says its set-up is beginner friendly, stating that it provides a song book so that “even a novice can begin to play basic tunes as they practice their accuracy.”

The reloading bit took a lot of the momentum out of it. I can see now why people dont want the magazines to get smaller. :p
