Immigration Overload: More Than 1,000 Unaccompanied Children Flood Texas Border

After more than 1,000 unaccompanied children illegally entered the United States through a Texas border with Mexico, the children are being sent to an improvised emergency shelter in Nogales, Arizona. Governor Jan Brewer in Arizona responded with a heated written statement slamming the Obama administration’s enforcement policies regarding illegal immigration.

Brewer said, “I am disturbed and outraged that President Obama’s administration continues to implement this dangerous and inhumane policy, meanwhile neglecting to answer crucial questions our citizens demand and deserve.”

A spokesman for Brewer, Andrew Wilder, described how approximately 432 unaccompanied minors were sent to the makeshift Arizona facility on Friday, approximately 367 children were sent from Texas on Saturday and about 367 more children were expected to arrive on Sunday.

The emergency shelter will provide access to washing facilities, portable toilets, food and vaccinations. Officials say the facility may house up to 1,500 children. Counseling services and other recreational activities will be offered by FEMA according to customs officials.

Most of the undocumented children came from Central America where the threat of violence from drug cartels motivated many to leave their countries. Department of Homeland Security Officials in Texas say they do not have sufficient manpower or detention space to process the incredible surge of undocumented immigrants coming from Central America.

Many undocumented single parents with children are also entering the country illegally in tremendous numbers after rumors spread throughout Central America that the United States would not deport single parents with children.

According to an LA Times article by Cindy Carcamo, “The surge of families hit a peak over Memorial Day weekend, when federal officials flew at least 400 migrants in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas to Tucson to be processed by customs and Border Patrol officials in Arizona.”

You sure??

Remember, all the way up to Utah used to be Mexico. Why not some parts of Canada??

When the Spanish tried to occupy the BC coast, native women loured them into the bushes and killed them while the men that had been enslaved, broke free and burned the Spanish ships to the water line. They never came back.

Those little kids must have great navigational skills and stamina to make it alone all the way from Honduras to Arizona - a distance of 2,000 miles.

Don't fool yourself. The easy part is getting through Mexico. The hardest is getting into Mexico across the southern border. The US/Mexican border is like swiss cheese in comparison.

Really, please drive from TJ or take a bus and see how easy it is..

Checkpoint for vehicles... lots of these locations, checking for guns, drugs and illegals

Mexican military checking buses and passengers..

It's the cartels bringing these kids through..

Mexico's immigration is stronger than the USA and Canada's

Interesting. The president of Guatemala is a graduate of the School Of Americas which is well known for its right wing extremism. Perez has also called for the legalization of drugs. If any of what you say is true, I wonder if or how his checkered past has anything to do with this news.

The good news is that Texas governor Rick Perry is hard at work in Austin, focussed like a laser on this growing crisis.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry compared homosexuality to alcoholism at an event in San Francisco Wednesday night, saying people can choose whether they engage in either lifestyle.
“Whether or not you feel compelled to follow a particular lifestyle or not, you have the ability to decide not to do that,” Perry said when asked whether homosexuality is a disorder at an event at the Commonwealth Club of California. “I may have the genetic coding that I’m inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that.”
