Costco Labels The Bible As “Fiction”…

Slap a “fiction” sticker on a copy of the Koran and there will be riots for days.

Via Fox News:
What do the Bible, “The Hunger Games” and “Fifty Shades of Grey” have in common? All three are works of fiction, according to the booksellers at Costco.

Pastor Caleb Kaltenbach made that shocking discovery last Friday as he was shopping for a present for his wife at a Costco in Simi Valley, Calif.

“All the Bibles were labeled as fiction,” the pastor told me. “It seemed bizarre to me.”

Kaltenbach is the lead pastor at Discovery Church, a non-denominational Christian congregation in southern California.
He thought there must be some sort of mistake so he scoured the shelf for other Bibles. Every copy was plastered with a sticker that read, “$14.99 Fiction.”

The pastor knew something must be amiss so he set off in search of a Costco employee hoping for an answer. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find anyone willing to answer his question (which is not all that surprising if you’ve shopped at Costco).

Since no one in the store was willing to offer assistance, the good shepherd of Discovery Church snapped a photograph of the Bible and tweeted it to his flock.

Finally a place where the proper sticker is put on that thing. Now if only other religious books were put in the same place.

It's all in the interpretation of whether or not it's fiction. If you don't understand the story, it's fiction, if you do, it's non-fiction.

As it should be. It could fit in philosophy as well, but never should have been in the history section.

From what you have written, your understanding is very New Age.

Besides being the most plagiarized book (the only exception possibly being the Koran) it is meant to be metaphorical and allegorical. It is the only way it makes any sense. But it is ancient and is what the ancients thought about the subject. In light of modern science and put in its proper historical perspective, it really has very little relevance today. Its literal interpretation as the word of god, however, would make it fictional.

It's old age Cliffy, if you were a bored kid who sat squirming on pew completely missing the point then denying that there is content it will seem new when you look at it again as an adult.

To a Catholic the OT is nothing but useless tripe baring Psalms but the NT holds the Key to everything (capital K on key has tonnes of meaning all on it's own).

It's the born yesterday Darbyists and Luther followers who f*cked the meaning up.

Without the scaffolding of the Old Testament the claims that Jesus was the Messiah would melt away like a morning mist, and perhaps Mithras or the Nordic gods would demand their due

The gods forgive you, my son, for citing the obvious.

Your statement, however, doesn't disprove the existence of the Nordic gods, it simply proves the inconsistency of English.
