In a move that's totally and completely not related to them being in the pocket of Big Pharma, the American Heart Association announces new guidelines that suggest up to 1/3 of Americans should be on statins

In what's being called a tectonic shift in the way doctors will treat high cholesterol, the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology on Tuesday released new treatment guidelines calling for a focus on risk factors rather than just cholesterol levels.

The new guidelines could double the amount of people on medication to lower their cholesterol, experts say.

"This is an enormous shift in policy as it relates to who should be treated for high levels of cholesterol," said Dr. Steven Nissen, chief of cardiovascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic.
The biggest change from the old guidelines, he says: Ignore the numbers.

Heart Failure

We are currently in the midst of a congestive heart failure epidemic in the United States--while the incidence of heart attack has declined slightly, an increase in the number heart failure cases has outpaced these gains. Deaths attributed to heart failure more than doubled from 1989 to 1997.14 (Statins were first given pre-market approval in 1987.) Interference with production of Co-Q10 by statin drugs is the most likely explanation. The heart is a muscle and it cannot work when deprived of Co-Q10.

Guess what? There is no such thing as bad cholesterol. The diet for lowering cholesterol actually kills people. That's why it's highly recommended by our stupid quack doctors.

Guess what, there's no law that says you HAVE to fill a prescription your doctor gives you. If you don't agree, just say no.
