Calgary-based TransCanada Corp. plans to move forward with its proposed Energy East Pipeline project, the company said today.

The pipeline proposal, which still needs regulatory approval, will send 1.1 million barrels of oil per day from Western Canada to refineries and export terminals in Eastern Canada.

Big development in the crude markets that is bound to have some interesting political fallout.

Looks like this may put a lot of pressure on KXL and Northern Gateway.

So who's going to get the oil in the East?? Irving Oil??

Why not build a heavy crude refinery in Alberta??

Not saying it's a bad idea.. I think Canada really needs to work on our East West infrastructure, and not just regarding pipelines..

Probably

Why not build a heavy crude refinery in Alberta??

There's already a high tech facility there... Doesn't mean it can't happen in the future though

Might be fair to say that this represents a step in that process.... Regardless, there will be more money in the provincial coffers in a number of provinces that can touch on the infrastructure issue.

(Sorry BC - ya might be a little late to the game on this)

Build more in Alberta..

What ever happen to the plans to build a Nuclear Power Plant ?? Alberta is sending all it's resources out of the province so others can profit.. we need to profit here at home, in Alberta..

(Sorry BC - ya might be a little late to the game on this)

NIMBY is kind of the mantra sadly enough. But then again, with the new Coop refinery in Regina and the facilities in the East - one might wonder if we are utilizing the best capacity right now

Ironically, that was to help service the oil sands refineries (very power intensive)

CTV's Randomly Selected Eco-Socialist In The Street Interview

CTV Ottawa just ran a story on its 6 o'clock news about Trans-Canada's plan to run crude-oil through a natural gas pipeline that goes through eastern Ontario.

It did one interview with a "concerned resident"...this d i c khead: Ian Angus.
Ian Angus : Climate & Capitalism

Education for Socialists: AUDIO: Capitalism and Climate Change -- Ian Angus

They presented this interview without identifying him as the leftist, socialist, arsehole that he is. Just another "man in the street".

I hope you can come up with the CTV Ottawa footage - I just don't have the knowhow.
And I'm on the road and don't have the time or resources. If someone can come up with the clip, pass it along. Dishonest agenda journalism or incompetence? You can mock them here.

Northern Ontario,
The only reason that some are against it, using environment as an excuse.....is that the line already exists, was used as a natural gas pipeline for years until they built a bigger one ...
Now, unlike a "new" pipeline which would generate work for communities along the way, probably they will only need several "Testing and repair crews" which wouldn't generate as much income locally........

Sierra Club has already chimed-in preaching their doom-'n-gloom to anyone that will listen (read: CBC). The crude carried by the p/l is expected to offset the 700,000 bbls (per day) that Que and New Brunswick import each day (makes ya wonder how it gets there).

This is a big win-win for lots of Canadians.

This pipeline is a good move but we still need the other lines as well, XL and Northern Gateway.

The thing Albertans always have to be concerned about ONLY having an east west P/L is that it will only be a matter of time before the east starts lobbing the government for a made in Canada price for oil. If that bozo Mulcair ever got power, that's the first thing he would implement.
So by having other P\L's, this would offer AB other ways to ship our their oil to markets.

Pipelines are bad for Gaia. We should build more wind farms and solar collectors. Oil companies are so greedy. Listen to Gore and Skuzuki because they know what is best for mankind. Won't someone please think of the children. Kumbaya.

New? There are three upgraders in SK.

CO-OP Heavy oil upgrader was the first in Nor Am built in the late 80's, a second one in Lloyd and the third added to CO-OP that recently went online and yet another ready to be built at CO-OP.

No NIMBYS in Regina. We like money and jobs.

Why don't they like money and jobs in BC?

SK benefits far more than AB with this line.

Sask is poised to reap bennies off of this - no doubt about that.... Big boon to the producers on the prairies too - wonder what will happen to the price of Edmonton/Hardisty Hub crude
I'd expect that the bottleneck discounts won't apply to oil heading East.

What is the routing on this puppy? Is this the one that goes south of the lakes supplying Cleveland and other refining centers first then MTL and points beyond or is it the refit of the old NG line? There are so many proposals it's hard to keep track.

I think it will change Western producers from being price takers into price makers (at least within NorAm)

They'll be refining in Que at existing facilities.... Exactly what will Trudeau be working on here - rail against having more high paying jobs outside Que city?

Yea, I'm sure they won't create any new sites on the way to Newfieland, lol

Trudeau is going to push this as 'bringing oil to Quebec' so the Libs can bolster support. And he'll be pushing the message hard because the NDP also support this pipeline.

Well, I wish him all the best on that... Sounds like his message won't be any different than any other party - other than the Fed Conservatives that will make a big deal about approving the deal.

True, but they have a reputation for selling out to the U.S. (Keystone, etc.)

So what you are saying is Trudeau will try and take credit for a project that came to be under the Conservative gov't.

Yeah, he will try. :)
