any thoughts one this and the ramifications?

Wondering which companies oppose GMO food labeling in the United States? During the California election of 2012 Proposition 37 (The California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act) sought to bring mandatory labeling to consumers. Big business paid to shut it down by contributing more than $45 million to oppose our Right to Know if GMO's are in the food we purchase. Here is the compiled list and more information about which companies they are.

If it's all good for people, why hide it from them?
I still don't think ALL genetic engineering is bad, though. Some of the advantages can include improving the nutritional quality, reduce toxins and allergens, reduce the need for pesticides and the like, etc.
Some of the hazards include introducing new allergens into foods, antibiotic resistance (both natural body and synthetic antibiotics), new toxicities, and enabling plants to take more heavy metals from their nutrient sources, etc.
Hence, my opinion that it's better safe than sorry.

Besides the unknown possible health side effects, what concerns many is that they are taking control of the world food supply. Monsanto has a record of going after people who refuse to use their Frankenseeds. We are loosing the old fruit and vegetable varieties and they are being replaced with patented Franken varieties. We will soon have no control over what we eat.
As a corporate citizen, Monsanto and their ilk are psychopaths.

Which Countries Have Banned GMO Foods?

Europe

  • In Europe, Norway, Austria, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Greece, France, Luxembourg and Portugal have put in place GMO restrictions. France made an important step in the no-GMO movement by specifically defining exactly what "GMO-free" means when it comes to food labeling. Ireland has banned all growing and cultivating of GMO foods and the European Union -- a governing coalition of European countries -- has considered a Europe-wide banning of GMO foods.
