Police on Vancouver Island say they have several good leads on the identity of a motorcycle rider who filmed himself weaving through traffic at extremely high speeds on a busy highway outside Victoria.

In the video, the speedometer shows the motorbike rocketing past vehicles at speeds close to 300 km/h, passing along the centre line, shocking even veteran traffic officers and professional motorcycle riders, who have seen it.

Saanich police Sgt. Dean Jantzen says investigators have now identified the IP address where the YouTube video was uploaded, and think they are closing in on the anonymous account holder, so far identified only as Joe Blow.

"The IP address has led to an ISP which is an internet service provider. And from there it does take some steps to sort of drill down a little bit on specifically where it came from," Jantzen told CBC News on Wednesday morning.

But investigators are confident they know the geographic area where the video was uploaded and which they are matching with a number of tips from people who think they know the identity of the rider.

"There is a particular [name] that seems to be coming up time and time again," said Jantzen.

Police have also identified the bike as a Blue Yamaha, and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the high-speed ride to contact them.

Google sidewalk should team up (purchase) a VR hardware company that would allow bike riders to mount their own bike in some VR clamp and the results of a dyno run would be their power level to a track such as one in the vid, another one would be Calgary to Edmontion, 180 miles one way, being twinned it could be 180 mile race and each competitor raced the clock for the official time, an interactive mode might be fun also as team-play could become part of the play. Realistic down to the tar marks being felt yet a 'ladies track' would eliminate those things that contribute to motion sickness. The best ride need a wind tunnel option.

Why can't the cops csi the plate numbers themselves.
Can you imagine getting a box full of tickets in the mail? (photo radar type)

I am not sure how much proof is necessary. Before radar, police were allowed to ticket people that they "felt" were going to fast. I am sure those laws are still on the books.

Saw a guy do something like that on the Queensway in Ottawa, although not nearly as fast. He sure deked every car on the highway and was out of sight real quick.

Kept looking for smears on the overpasses, but nope. Guess he made it.

Back in the 60s, a friend and I were hitchhiking near Gananoque when we heard an engine roaring, coming around a bend. As he went by, we noticed it was a 64 Galaxy convertible doing excessive speed. The driver had his foot slammed to the floor, his back was arched up and his girlfriend was giving him head. We estimated that he was doing around 130 - 150 miles an hour. We walked many miles on that old road that day, but we never came across the expected: the Galaxy splattered all over a rock wall.

Idiots that fly by in those excessive speeds(car or motorcycle) are beyond reckless. The reaction time is so small at those speeds that there is NO way that they could slow down in time if something had happened in front of them. It's not the fact that they have a good chance of killing themselves(their own fault), but the other potential victims that could occur due to their stupidity.

Police on Vancouver Island say they have tracked down an unlicensed and uninsured motorcyclist who posted a YouTube video of a terrifying high-speed run along a busy section of the Trans-Canada Highway.

The rider in the video is believed to be a 25-year-old male with 25 previous infractions, Saanich police revealed Thursday morning. The registered owner of the bike is believed to be his mother, but the bike is not insured, they said
And sh*t for brains. But his mother owns the motorcycle... so that seems to run in the family.

25 previous infractions... this guy is an idiot anyhow.. hope he spends some time in jail and liberal justice laws don't get in the way.

315 KM bike, why do you need a bike that fast in Canada, when the average speed limit on the road are 110km. I mean, 150km is fast enough.. no??

$15,000 bike impounded & $1400 in fines.. lol - There is some real justice..
