... the supreme court of british columbia has ruled that bc lawyers are exempt from money laundering laws that still apply to other groups, including banks. story HERE ...

... the truth is, this law has never been in effect because the canadian government simply doesn't enforce criminal or civil law against the legal profession. this is the exact reason why bc lawyers can declare war on their victims and there's nothing that can be done about it ...

Believe it or not, there are some people that believe it is OK if the law says it's OK.

All parties in parliament could pass a new law overturning this. Won't likely happen though.
... sure. and then the lawyers would just apply to the court to have it struck down like they recently did in vancouver ...

... what's the point of voting for and electing members of parliament if the laws they write can be instantly wiped out by lawyers who aren't elected and who are operating pursuant to their own devious interests?

Lawyers don't 'wipe out' laws. They write arguments heard by a Court.

It's the Court that has final say.

... and the court is comprised of what? nothing but lawyers! even the judge is a corrupt old lawyer enlisted for the pork barrel job from private practice. that's yet another unfair element of the court system -- why is it that only lawyers can qualify to be judges? if the system was run legally and fairly anyone qualified for the job would be eligible, not just lawyers ...

Yes, Judges are Lawyers, but do a fundamentally different job. Tasked with formulating a ruling, based on and operating within the confines of legislation, law and the Charter.

Where as the latter does not void the former.

Again we come down to a matter similar to your feeling on the SCC's ruling on Insite. A Constitutional challenge, that met the test.

I read your article, and agree with the Courts ruling. As the law was written, it does infringe upon the fundamental principles of Solicitor client privilege.

We may not always agree with how the Charter trumps laws we think are righteous. But the Charter is the supreme law of the land. It's there to protect our individual freedoms, and rights.

Just the legal side, what about Laws. seems you have no idea of the role of the courts all the way up to the SCOC so why would you understand the Legal Profession?

... wrong. the law helped to protect everyone from criminal money laundering by lawyers, a crime that even the federal government is aware that the legal profession is quite guilty of perpetrating ...

... shooting down the law makes it considerably safer for canadian lawyers to continue with their illegal money laundering activity ...

Did you read the article? Or just the headline?

Here's an interesting clip...

In 2004, the law society developed the No Cash Rule, which stops lawyers from taking cash of $7,500 or more from clients on one matter. The rule augments long-standing law society rules that stop lawyers from taking part in illegal activity or from being unwittingly involved in money laundering and terrorist financing.
