Junk food experiment

I watched a documentary on C.B.C. last night testing the results of eating a steady diet of Junk food. The subject was a fairly healthy guy probably in his 30s and the assignment was to eat all his meals at McDonald's for 30 days. He could eat or drink nothing that wasn't purchased at McDonalds and he had to eat every item on the menu at least once. He was monitored by three doctors, a G.P. and two specialists. He was measured and weighed and had all his vital signs checked at the start and was deemed to be in perfect health. By day 22 his G.P. warned him there was a chance he wouldn't live to finish the experiment, anyway he persevered and made it through in disgusting condition. He gained 241/2 lbs and his liver and kidneys were on the virge of failure and his blood sugar was sky high. These bastards are criminal.

The other part was, if they asked him if he wanted to supersize the meal, he had to agree.

It's a bit of a silly premise, but then again, there are people who eat mostly this crap.

Any of this crap is okay occasionally, but not all the time. That goes for most prepared foods, though.

Absolutely, but I think once a month should be ample, followed by two hours of strenuous exercise.

Also the guy was a vegan freak to start out with. Most of the issues he had to start with were because he hadn't eaten food with that much grease in it and his stomach wasn't used to it.

Also, people have done the 30 day McDonalds run and actually lost weight but they had salad instead of fries.

They did talk to one guy in the documentary who did go there daily but all he had as a Big Mac (no fries or coke). He did not have the same issues.

So the guy achieved the goal he wanted but I don't think it proves one thing or another. Everything within moderation is the key. You don't have to never do McDonalds and you don't have to be a vegan freak to live healthy,

I haven't eaten anything from McDonald's in over 10 years. Well, I haven't eaten meat in over 10 years either.

We eat KFC two or three times a year. It seems to me that Col. Sanders lived
to be ninety years old. Can it be that dangerous?...Forget MacDonalds....the
stuff is crap.

I doubt the Col. had to eat the Pepsi version of his chicken.

As stated moderation is the key. Fast food should only be an occasional indulgence if you enjoy it, or an occasional necessity if you're on the run and need something fast.

Eat meat three times a week, avoid dairy and you can live a nice long osteo free life.

Sounds like a plan!

If you are actually running.

Sure hope you are eating lots of fish, poultry, eggs and cheese. Too much animal fat is definitely bad, but I think you would be wiser to eat red meat once or twice a week just for the benefit it does provide. Vitamin B12 for one thing.

I wonder if the Col. dug into his own stash.

McDonalds isn't that bad. It's certainly crap, but it isn't the horrible end of the world that some seem to think. It's not particularly worse than, say, EastSideMarios or Montana's or any of those other chain restaurants where, for example, the pasta sauce comes in bags from Trenton, and the cooks aren't cooks, they're just assembly line workers dealing with industrially-produced foodstuffs.
