That's very nice they decided to make Canada their first official visit, but honestly.... I don't particularily care...

Yes they will be treated wonderfully, that's already been shown... If Canada has to/needs to have a Queen/King, I (pardon the expression) PRAY it is William and NOT his father (and what's-her-face)..... The wicked witch of the west has nothing on what's-her-face.

Yes William has shown us that he actually has a human tendency, unlike the rest of the inbred royal family who exhibit traits of some other species, possibly humanoid from off planet.

The next king will be Charles unless he refuses the role. That's how the system works and there's no way to avoid this fact unless Canadians decide to change the system.

Monarchy is not based on the worth of a given King or Queen. It is ruled by male preference cognatic primogeniture. And only a Protestant can inherit the crown. That's the system we live in. All the pomp in the world can't hide the fact that it goes against all modern principles of equality.

I don't care if they visit or not so long as I don't have to pay for any of it. Getting tired of seeing on the news though.

It actually ends up being a good investment. Pay for their visit, they attract a ton of tourists which because of sales taxes pays for the taxpayer investment and stimulates a few local economies for a few days.

very true. Wonder what it is like to be a "commodity". The UK treated their wedding the same way. Put on the grandest show on earth with the objective of bringing in megabucks .

Gotta wonder what it is like being "on display" all the time. Something akin to the zoo comes to mind.

A zoo with an unlocked door. If they don't like it they are free to give up all their titles and make a life as a private citizen.

you make it sound easy............when in reality the reaction to such a decision would have devestating repercussions to the "firm" , the nation, and the commonwealth. Maybe the "lesser" royals have that option....

Repercussions or not, the option is there for them. Edward VIII's abdication for personal reasons is a decent example. If a King wants to step down, its not hard to replace him. Go to the next in line, if that person doesn't want it you go on and on. The Monarchy today is mostly symbolic so even if they all went it would only put into name what is already in practice, that being power practiced by politicians.

Canada has had more Royal visits than any other Commonwealth nation. I've shaken hands with Prince Charles and have had the Queen stop and pose for me to take a photo.

Good socialist thinking. We all pay so a few can benefit.
I would like to get rid of the monarchy anyway since it is rather embarrassing to have a foreigner as head of our country.

Cool !!! Even if they are figureheads and little more ........ they represent links with history and that kind of tradition can be important.

We get it back through the sales taxes.

I agree with getting rid of them, but they aren't technically foreign as they have citizenship here.

Will and Kate warmly received in Ottawa - Canada - CBC News

I for one am very proud that the newly weds chose Canada to make their first official Royal Tour. I believe that it is a great honour for our country and shows to Canadians that the Royal family has a great fondness, love and respect for this great nation! Definitely CHEERS! From me......

Fingertrouble

I have no problem with them, they seem like nice enough people and they no doubt will generate quite a bit of money for the country, just think if everyone who goes to see them buys one gallon of gas and a cup of coffee.
