Likely even more. It's been estimated by Black scholars that as many as 375,000 Africans were slaves in Colonial America. Compare that to the 500,000 Irish that were sent into slavery as Britain attempted an actual genocide on them. Then there were the numerous homeless people throughout Great Britain that were essentially shanghaied and sent to the US as slaves, and not the indentured servant kind either. Convicted criminals and POWs were also sent over as slaves but their term of slavery was "only" 14 years.


White slaves were also substantially cheaper to buy than Black slaves and thusly their lives were much cheaper as well. While the vast bulk of slaves were subject to some pretty horrible abuses, owners of Black slaves didn't go out of their way to kill them when they "misbehaved" because they were expensive to buy/replace. White slaves, OTOH, only had to commit the slightest transgression for their lives to be forfeit.


It was slave owners who gave us the pejorative meaning of "cracker". The term came about because White slaves were hated by many of their owners. They were considered weak and to have given up their birth right as White people to rule the world.
The pejorative term "ni**er" simply comes from the Latin word for black; "niger". Hence the Niger River and the countries of Niger and Nigeria.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
