Always thought that ole Elvis would have been happier just being a truck driver down there in Tupelo or wherever he was from. I don't think fame or fortune made him happy.

In truth, I've always thought of him as a genuinely humble guy. He revered him mom, hated racism, wanted everyone associated with him to be on an equal footing socially, and, of course, adored his wife. But all of his inner turmoil found an outlet when he was on stage. And what a great performer he was!

"Lost" the KING?

Not really - he'll be in our hearts forever!

I remember the day Elvis died. I would'a been 'bout 7 or 8 yrs old &
was over at a buddies house shooting pool. His mother was crying
hysterically upstairs over this, and I just didn't get it. I still don't.

To our generation, Elvis was always KING of entertainment. One of a kind.
He was a pill junkie an abusive jerk and a bloated azzhole.

He was a fat sweaty slob who sang other people's songs. King of rock n roll? Don't be silly. Even Chuck Berry was better.

No, he was lost years before he died. Going to Vegas and becoming a bit of a hermit in Graceland did that.

Even Chuck Berry was better.

I feel very weird agreeing with you on anything.

Kind of par for the chorus when it comes to rock stars both back then and now.

I was drunk in a bar in Kamloops when I heard-couldn't care less then couldn't care less now.

Cared enough to remember the moment.

That's right (doesn't seem possible) and I can remember the time of day, exacly where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news.
