I just dropped my car off to have the oil changed and as I'm crossing the street I see this sign:

At fist glance it looks like you can buy cosmetics and eyelove.

I wish I had the nerve to ask them what exactly eyelove was...and is it even legal?

It's the first time I've seen Engrish in my hometown. Which is odd considering I live in Surrey! But maybe it's because I've just not really paid attention. I think that is about to change though...

I've come across a lot of franglais in the Ottawa Gatineau area, mostly attempts at translating from English. It's quite embarrassing to the company and it would be preferable to just not include French if they can't translate it right.

I remember in China one friend was telling me how his and a few other international companies suffered a number of court cases owing to mistranslations of contracts into English. Chinglish is funny when you see in on a store sign and it's obviously Chinglish. It's bloody expensive and not funny at all when it looks like standard English, but they chose the wrong word, and apparently the courts will accept a dictionary definition of a word however uncommon that definition may be used by native English-speakers, as long as that definition is contained in the original Chinese version. That being the case, and with English so full of homonyms, etc. you almost need a professional linguist and legal expert working as a team to write the contract for you, but then that's bloody expensive too.
