Lucifer, Macjo is in China, he's not going to a chinese takeout...although he should go to the one in San Fran with the rude woman owner, she called me "cheap" for only giving her a $8 DOLLAR!!!! TIP!!!!!!

OR!!!.....Go to the Deli opposite the Youth Hostel on 91st street/ Amsterdam Ave, amazing sandwiches, and they tend to be bigger if the owners realise your not a "rude" american!!! hehehe

You gave her an $8 tip? Why? I would never even conceive of tipping in such an amount. Now I am the cheap one. You should have backhanded her for insulting you in front of the patrons. Never go there again.

Where is this Amsterdam Ave.?

it's in New York's west side, one street away from central Park, I was in the youth Hostel there, the Deli looked like it was an undercover branch of the Taliban, but when they realise you arnt American, they'll serve you first, ignore the americans, sell you the sanwich cheaper and add more to it.

And I only gave the chinese woman that tip because, A. she's known thru out America for being the rudest waitress, and 2. I just didnt need the hassle cus I had a headache

(not Katz ITN the first one, but in Spanish Harlem, I think it's 91st street next to a mexican/american diner and a Afro-american barber...directly opposite the AYH-YHA NY Youth Hostel...it used to be an old woman's home, you must know it on Amsterdam Ave..and the chinese woman is in chinatown in San Fran)

"I love how people like yourself call it Chinese food when it is clearly not."

What? I think I'm about to read a shocking revelation here.

"When people order Chinese take-out and the like they think it is the same food they eat in China."

As far as I know, whether I eat in the restaurant or take out, I'm still in China. If I'm wrong on this one, then there's definietely something you need to tell me.

"It is not even close."

OK. I'm waiting for the punchline.

"The Chinese food you order from those restaurants are not authentic Chinese food."

Hmmm... so where exactly ought I go to eat authentic Chinese food if not to China? OK, now you've really peaked my curiosity.

That is food changed by the British into a different type of food, a fast food if you will.

"When Hong Kong was ruled by the British (damn but I miss those days) they took Chinese food and changed it to meet the Western palate."

And what bout the food here?

"The Chinese had never fried anything before the arrival of the British."

Wow! They sure like to fry foods now. Here you could actually by deep-fried hamburgers! The things look disgusting, and being vegetarian myself, I'm not interested in trying them anyway. But I'll tell you this much. If frying foods came from the British, the Chinese have certainly surpassed them in the art of frying since then. And most people around these parts are quite happy Hong Kong has been repatriated after the British attempt of trying to impose the Opium trade upon China while prohibiting it on their own land, using Hong Kong as a main port for Opium importation. What a proud history the British have in Hong Kong there.

"As everyone knows Chinese food here in the West is all fried."

And most foods here are fried too, much of it quite oily might I add. But I haven't seen deep-fried burgers in Canada yet. But I'll keep an eye out when I go back this comming winter.

"British culinary style was adapted to Chinese food to make it tastier."

Most locals here aren't too impressed by British cooking to begin with. Or maybe they took frying from the British, adopted it as their own, and have since forgotten that we're now all eating British-modified Chinese food, thinking that it's the authentic stuff? Wow, just wait till I tell them that I know more about their cullinary history than they do. I'll try to tell them that all that frying comes from the British.

"I mean the Chinese steam their rice and that is truly nasty."

Well, we usually eat steamed rice with oher foods, not alone. but they also fry their rice too. But that must be another British innovation I suppose?

I'll ask around.

Yes, yes. No need to be a smartass commie. I had no idea you were in China. I was not paying attention to the names and flags crap. Do calm yourself.

I rather enjoyed that little ditty about Hong Kong and the opium trade. Never forget it was never forced upon you. Why? People in China were making too much money. Warlords and the like I believe. We had full permission of the Emperor/Empress.

Do you not find it strange that for a century little Hong Kong was wealthier than gigantic China? Could this have anything to do with British rule? Why yes I think it does. Deng Xiaoping was bloody embarassed by this fact so he decided to adopt the British economic system. Two decades or so later China has the world's fastest growing economy. This could have nothing to do with their having adopted a British system now could it? Now why would you adopt a clearly 'imperialist' system? I rest my case. Thank you for your rapt attention. *waves to the commie spies reading this post back in China, then flips them the bird and laughs at their country's dependence upon our natural resources with which we could shut down China's entire economy* Ta chum!

I thought they had Subways (the sandwich maker, not the tube you twit) in Great Britain??? I could have sworn they did. Subway is the world's largest sandwich chain by far. No one even begins to approach them.
