I recently tried to order legal documentation from CanLaw's website. For some reason my order was rejected, so I wrote them to find out what was wrong. Their response was abhorently rude, and I strongly recommend not doing buisness with them. A company who treats their potential costomers like (and I quote) "deadbeats" and tells them to "go to hell" is obviously not one worth dealing with. There are much better online buisnesses for ordering legal documents, ones that have a sane buisness strategy that involves treating thier costomers with respect.
Don't deal with CanLaw.

I wish I had read your post before I dealt with CanLaw. I have had a similar experience with them.
On 5 May 2006, I ordered their Power Pack Kit (consisting of Last Will and Testament, Living Will, and Power Of Attorney). This cost over $70.00. After my payment was accepted I downloaded documents from them. So far so good.
Today (28 May 2006) I received two e-mail messages at the same time from CanLaw. I have copied them below:

Dear Member,
Your access to the CanLaw PowerPackKit you ordered has now expired.

If you feel this is an error, please contact us. If you wish to order additional copies or other regional editions, please visit our website.

Thank you for being a member!

I did not know why I received the messages above so I responded with the following message:

'I am not sure what you mean. I downloaded some documents from you. Is that not what I ordered?

If I missed something, please send again. Either that or credit back my money.'

Here is the response I received backfrom kirwood@kirwood.com at CanLaw

'Stupidity reigns
You got what you ordered. Why would you think we would credit back your money
You are truly an idiot
Learn to read asshole'

I made one more request for an explanation regarding the two messages that I had received and got the following answer from kirwood@kirwood.com at CanLaw:

'Learn to read you idiot.'


CanLaw responses are rude and unprofessional. I strongly recommend...do NOT do business with them!

I, too, had an unpleasant experience with this psycho (please excuse his profanities below - they have been copied and pasted directly from my email). I did a bit of research online and he is a woman-hater, among other things. There are many marks against him and his company at the Better Business Bureau as well. He prefers to ignore the complaints rather than dealing with them.

Apparently CanLaw also receives complaints about lawyers and publishes those who request information about a particular lawyer (at least this is a service they claim to offer). Curious I thought I would attempt to access my information. My first request was rejected for "idiocy".

I then wrote to them and advised them there was nothing idiotic about attempting to access my personal information. This was there response:

"Now we have something specific to publish.
Frauds are frauds and you are a sneak and a fraud"

I attempted to get any information they had collected on me for a third time and received this response:

"You are obviously a nut case looking to cause problems
Get some therapy and go away
Do not contact us again unless you want to spend a lot of time dealing with Harassment charges through LSUC"

I don't understand why Mr. Kirby has such a problem. He should appear on the Dr. Phil show!!! At first I thought he was just a woman-hater, but it appears that he hates EVERYONE!

I have noticed that Mr. Kirby does tend to post a lot on the "Fathers for Justice" type websites and blogs. I would definitely think he has a problem with women. Possibly with lawyers as well.

I'm experiencing huge levels of skepticism towards the legitimacy of these posters (I suspect their not real people) and a unwillingness to read anything they've posted here. Kind of weird really, considering....

No, not really. It happens in a couple other threads in here. People come on because they're pissed and want to vent, and post to the thread. Then new posts update to their e-mail if they have notifications settings. It happens in the Nouveau Tech thread, and the Portfolio management thread.

We also get people who will post exclusively to a thread they've started regarding, say, moving to Alberta. Not everyone wants to be a full member of the community... some just want to vent over being mistreated or scammed.

Well, considering that their site allows slander in the form of complaints against lawyers, I don't think they'd have much of a leg to stand on. That could just be me... I'm no lawyer. lol.
